I have been to Frenchy's several times and will always go back when I'm in the area. We went twice while in town last week. Our dinner experience was not that great. They were really busy and we decided to wait 30 mins for a table. There really isn't much of an area to wait, so lots of shuffling around to stay out of the way. Our name was called and we were told we could sit on the back patio and the hostess invited us to "take a look". Ummm....yeah. That's not a back patio. It's a tiny area with four tables separated from the parking lot by wall that is 3 feet high and 8 inches wide. And it's separated from their trash dumpster by a fence. Completely unrealistic to try and seat people here. We asked to be re-seated and waited another 15 minutes for a table. There was a large party seated at a table near ours. I don't blame people for wanting to have fun while on vacation, but do you have to get stupid drunk and super loud at dinner? It was so loud that it was almost impossible to have a conversation over dinner. The food was good, but we ate quickly and left. We went back later in the week for lunch and it was very quiet and relaxed. Same good food, much nicer experience. The Original Grouper Sandwich is something you should try if you haven't been before. I've had it fried and grilled and both are excellent. The fish spread is also excellent and worth trying.

I decided to try this place based on yelp reviews and the menu. The prices are good, we spent $22 plus tip for lunch for 2. My husband got the fish & chips. For $9.95 they give you 5 good sized fish and fries. I got the Cajun grouper sandwich. I had never had grouper before and the waitress did a good job explaining it. The sandwich was pretty good. The Cajun added good flavor but wasn't spicy at all. The service was very good.

I used to really like this place until this last time I went there. Service was extremely slow. The host had terrible body odor. My husband even commented on it! Weak margaritas. I ordered the watermelon and grouper salad. I received a strawberry and grouper salad? To top it off when I went to restroom a server came out of the stall and bolted out the door without washing her hands!! Gross just gross.

Love Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe (better than the other Frenchy's locations which are all different menus and atmosphere) -- this is the great little local and tourist place. It has an excellent atmosphere and we love to come by boat. Beware: If Deanna is your server, ask for another!!!!!! She is all about moving the tables and won't let you just sit and enjoy!

2 off visits? Has my tastes and expectations changed? Has this place become another victim of the economy? I can't put my finger on it this had been a beach stop for my wife and I for many many years and its normally a grade A experience but the last 2 stops here have been lackluster at best. Crab soup? The best still! Conch salad? Wife says amazing! But when the entries arrive? Boo. Very small portions and fish is not very good. I order the seafood medley every time I go and it's just been missing the mark in preparation and portion/value. This place is starting to feel like a tourist trap. I even asked a favor and offered to pay extra for a little of the crab stuffing to be added atop my grilled fish and got neither an answer nor the stuffing on the fish? Really? Those are the kind of things that separate you from the "chain restaurants". When we take the next few beach trips it will warrant some pre trip research to try another place to eat.

I just returned home from Clearwater Beach on vacation and was so excited about this place, I had to write my first review. This place is CLEAN and QUAINT. The employees were super nice and helpful. (Especially one named Lexi). The little food that I had was awesome. I came in to relax and have a "few" Mai Tai's, but took a glance at the menu and decided on the Grouper cheeks. They tasted very fresh. I can't wait to come back to Clearwater Beach and visit Frenchy's Cafe again!

Yikes!! We had dinner at Cooter's last night & Frenchy's tonight. The difference is striking. From menu options to presentation, food quality and preparation, Frenchy's gets 1 star across the board. Our waitress, KK was very nice and did a good job, but EVERYTHING else about this experience was very poor. My best advice is RUN don't walk, next door to Cooters!!

One of several Frenchy's, and all have a strong rep for seafood. We have eaten there once and were well satisfied, but not overwhelmed. Friendly, casual beach-feel restaurant even if this one is not quite on the beach. Fish and seafood offerings are the usual for the area....good fried calamari app, and grouper. A bit loud but clearly a family-friendly place that made us inclined to return....maybe to one of the other in the chain. We arrived early on a Friday during the off-season, but it was filling up by the time we finished. So beware of showing up after 6 after the snowbirds have flown in.

Holy Grouper, Frenchy's! I've been here twice and tried two variations of their grouper sandwich since I read so much about it in reviews. Both times is was delicious. I had the grilled grouper sandwich and their traditional fried grouper sandwich. The fried one was ultra crispy and satisfying. To my pleasant surprise, the grilled sandwich was also just as amazing. Everyone I was with ordered grouper and we all left happy. We ordered the grouper nuggets to start and I definitely highly recommend them! The environment is fun and down to earth. It's a great spot for an after-beach bite to eat. It's all open so I thought it would be too hot, but they really crank the AC and fans. I was very comfortable.

Easiest decision I ever need to make: ordering the cajun gator tail........ best. appetizer. ever. Hardest decision I ever need to make: ordering either the soft shell crab sandwich or the buffalo grouper sandwich. Cheap, fun and right near the sand. Luckily most other restaurants on CW beach are overpriced, crappy or overmarketed... I never think twice about stopping by. This little dive is a nice little relic of the former low-key Clearwater Beach from so many years ago that I knew and love.

Amazing grouper sandwiches, no matter how you have them cooked. Fresh, fresh, fresh. Beer selection seems very limited, but other than that, make it your first stop in Clearwater Beach. This is a tiny little place.

    (5)
  • T D.

Oysters were massive and delicious. Original grouper is the BEST and cajun grouper is great too. LOVE their chips... there is something special with the seasoning they use that makes it wonderfully melt in your mouth and crisp at the same time. Go to any of the Frenchy's and you will always go back.

Very friendly staff. Good place for locals to take a break while at Clearwater Beach. The food is reasonably priced and the drinks are good. Tap beer is $3.00 a pint or you can get a whole pitcher for $7.95.

This is by far the best Frenchy's location out of the four. The food is always fresh and nicely portioned. I love the gator nuggets but ask for the Bahamian sauce with it (so good). I usually order the Cajun grouper sandwich and the quality is always on point. If you are going to choose a Frenchy's to eat at please choose this one, it is the best!

I love all the Frenchy's restaurants.. Salt Water Cafe is definitely my favourite, though. The fried grouper sandwich is delicous. I love the classic beach setup and layout.. Great food, great service, great location. Perfect for a good, filling meal after a long day at the beautiful Clearwater Beach. Check out any of the frenchy's restaurants. They're all very good, the traffic (which is dealt with well by the chefs and waiters) can prove that!

Brought my family to eat here recently while on vacation. Good kids menu and a good selection of appetizers. Great beer specials ($2.50). We ended up ordering most of their appetizers while taking advantage of the beer special. Of note were the crab cakes and clams. Pass on the mussels.

Came in super last minute before closing, but they were gracious enough to seat us. We Ordered the Super Original Grouper Sandwich and the Thursday night special- 3 Baja fish tacos. I had never had grouper before. Realize that I like it.

Best grouper sandwich I've ever had. Always make a stop here when I'm on the Gulf coast. My server Mike was great, friendly and quick. Had the Grouper sandwich and Fried conch. Year round I crave a grouper sandwich, which is impossible to find up North. If yer in the area, make a point to stop and have some GROUPER!!!

I'm outside typing this review, as my boyfriend is inside still stuffing his face with all you can eat crab legs. He's putting a killing on this place. I had buffalo grouper sandwich HOT and spicy. Delish. Have eaten here many times, nice place. Good atmosphere. Friendly staff.

Awesome! Any of the grouper choices are can't miss - recommend the super grouper sandwich. Very friendly staff. Highly recommend.

When we had just moved down here this was the first place we went after unloading the truck. Delicious ceviche. It had great seasonings and huge chucks of seafood. We also ordered grouper sandwiches, muscles, calamari, and shrimp. All was good but the ceviche takes the cake.

  • Amy J.

We had been here once before and couldn't wait to go back. We were craving Grouper sandwiches and when I typed in to google where the best grouper was, Frenchys was at the top of the list. We ordered calamari as an app and it was really good! Tasted very fresh. The grouper sandwich was also really good and big. We ordered desserts to go, key lime pie and pb pie. Both were good. Last time we went we got mussels which were fresh as well. All of them were open which is rare for anytime I've had mussels in the past. The she crab soup is to die for!! Can't wait to go back and keep working our way through the menu!

You're at Clearwater Beach, so everything is touristy, but if you're going to dine in a touristy area, this is a cool place to go. It's open to the outside and there are plenty of choices on the menu. I went twice. The first time I had the grilled Greek octopus and it was stellar. A nice crunch on the outside, not too chewy on the inside, with a delicious lemon-garlic dip. The second time, I had the buffalo shrimp, deep-fried alligator, and the blue crab stuffed mushrooms. All were excellent, fresh, and well worth the price. The service was friendly and fast and for an evening it was busy, but not too packed. Well worth checking out.

Loved this place!!!! I had the buffalo style grouper sandwich and it was amazing! My friend had some type of chicken salad pita and it was the best chicken salad I've ever tried. Atmosphere is great. We ended up sitting at the bar to eat because it was over an hour wait for a table and our service was fantastic! Can't wait to go back to Clearwater to eat here again!

An ideal place for pre-beach or post-beach hunger satisfaction. Skip the congested indoor seating and go for the open air seating. Don't worry plenty of ceiling fans will keep your internal temperature from rising. The Spicy Conch Fritters are crispy on the outside with the right balance of moistness on the inside. Pair it with their spicy blended sauce and you've got finger licking good conch balls. *side note* yeah if are smirking right now, thinking of something else, remember, conch don't have them. The Grouper Tamale are decent, my two came out a little bit on the dry side. However, they still packed a great punch in flavor and the neither the tamale nor the grouper over powered each other. Supposedly these tamale are special made just for Frenchies. Try them while they last. There is a wide selection of beer as well as a few mixed drinks on the menu. My opinion - pair your food with a cold beer for a very satisfying experience at Frenchies. The serving staff are plenty friendly. They'll chat you up while being attentive to your needs. Be nice and you will get niceness in return.

Frenchy's embraces the beach atmosphere with the open air bar and dining, along with the nautical themed decorations. I had wanted to try it for some time since it appeared to be a bit of an institution. I had their signature fried grouper sandwich which was definitely better than a filet-o-fish, but not as amazing as I had been hoping. The service and quality were all well and good, but I would not make a special trip.

  • Bonnie J.

The waitress was EXCELLENT. The taste of the food was 4 star, the service 5 star, the reaction to the food 2 star. The food was tasty -but not quite a 4 star. All of us felt a little funny after eating there - likely from MSGs or some other additives. (If you look at my reviews, I favor the higher quality restaurants). If you don't mind additives in your food, then this is a great place. The ambiance is very 'beachy'

The snow crab legs are great. Good deal for 2lbs. The appetizers, especially the fish dip are a must-try. Amazing service to boot! I would make this a 4.5 if that was available.

Love the t shirts !! This place is always crazy busy but the food does not dissappoint. I hate that it is always so full, the bathroom are a bit dirty but it's by a beach. The food is a great and the drinks are very cold. When you have the gourgous views of the beach from your dinner table, how can you go wrong. Just go early and be prepared to wait.

Pretty darned good food. The service... not so much, maybe I was there on a bad day, took quite a while, items forgotten, didn't check up on us very often for drink refills, took an inordinate amount of time to actually get a server to our table in the first place. That said, this place does have good food. I recommend the Grouper sandwich. This is a restaurant, but really more like a bar & grill. It was busy the day we were there, and I think it probably is most of the time. OK priced for a touristy place. Large portions. Overall good value.

The is a casual place to eat and can be a little warm. But... The food is excellent. I had the conch appetizer and the grouper sandwich. It was so fresh and tasty!

Definitely my favorite Frenchy's on Clearwater Beach by far! The quality of the food is much better than the others and I like the menu choices better as well. For appetizers my favorites are the calamari, smoked fish spread and the gator nuggets (ask for bohemian sauce to dip!). For my entree I always get the buffalo grouper sandwich and am never disappointed!

  • Celeste S.

You have to get the grouper sandwich. Period. You can look at the menu if you want but there really isn't much point. Also, get the basket of curly fries. I grew up in Clearwater and have eaten at several of the Frenchy's a fair amount. And I have never had anything else but the grouper sandwich. Sadly, I cannot get grouper out here in California so I make sure to get it when I visit Florida. Frenchy's is exactly like you imagine a Florida beach place to be. Jimmy Buffet doesn't come out and play for you but if he did, you really wouldn't be surprised. Anytime I go to Florida (which I try to limit as much as possible), a visit to Frenchy's is required.

Frozen stone crabs not cool. Just take them off menu. Ive eaten here many times though mostly its a place for drinks and apps, but seasonally they have great stone crabs. But i notice now as the season wears on they have limited amounts and the vendor ( ive been told they have their own fishing boats) freezes some for later and they then serve them as "Fresh" which they are not. The meat is soggy and pulls away from the shells. Also has a watery taste. I was charged 80$ for 2 portions of medium claws with no side or salad and when i complained about it i was told that they are too fresh. Well no, they are not. Dont lie about it! You have the stone crab feast there yearly you darn well know these are not fresh! If i go back it will be for drinks only. Avoid anything fried here, its all batter .

We wish we had gone here earlier in our visit to Clearwater beach; the fact that frenchy's has 4 restaurants deterred us from going straight there, despite positive reviews from locals. We made it to the frenchy's south beach cafe the night before - purely due to the heavy rain, empty stomachs and close proximity. We got a burger there and it wasn't bad, but it almost feels like a McDonald's in atmosphere and we have no intent of going back. Quite the opposite with frenchy's saltwater cafe. We loved everything there, including out waitor, Chris. We got some bad fried seafood elsewhere and were a little gun shy to try any more, but Chris said they have the best. He was right. We got the conch bites (not fritters) and they were just as good as the seafood we love in Maine. We followed with the smoked fish dip - which is so good we wished there was more. It is like whitefish salad that you'd get in any NY/NJ/CT Jewish deli - but less fishy and more smoky. Just enough mayo to hold it together, but you barely notice it. We also got shrimp tacos. The best ever. Couldn't get any better. Drinks were great. Oh yes - key lime pie was also great! You'll see us again, Chris. This is one of two restaurants in the area we feel are worthy of a "you have to eat here." The other is guppy's on the beach in Indian Rocks. We also loved Cooters and Clear Sky beach cafe.

This is a favorite for my husband and me and the kids. My daughter discovered her love of shrimp here for the first time. My other daughter likes the New York Strip steak, so you can't go wrong here. The only complaint is it can be so congested, it can annoy the patrons and staff can become disorganized, but not to their fault, but to volume. I get the grouper sandwich and put their signature hot sauce on it.

My wife and I chose Frenchy's because of the reviews and it was very close to our hotel. We had to wait for our room so we decided to walk to Frenchy's for lunch. The reviews are spot on - excellent food (tequila lime shrimp tacos/cajun grouper) at a fair price. Basic beach shack with good service, too. Only negative - my wife is pregnant and the setup for the outside bar flows such that people blow cigarette smoke into the inside (non-smoking) eating area. We plan to eat dinner at the other Frenchy's while in the area based on this experience.

This place is great and it has been for years. We lived in Pinellas County in the 1990s and frequently made the trek to Clearwater Beach. We brought our kids back this year and it is like going back in time. Great fun! Great food! Great People! We started with a pitcher of Sangria, Hot Buffalo Shrimp and 1lb. of Med Stone Crab claws while we were waiting for our table. They told us about 45 minutes for our table of 6, but it ended up only being about 25 minutes. Once seated folks in our party had She Crab soup, Conch Chowder, Conch Fritters and Clam Chowder. All were great! For entrees most had the Grouper sandwich while others had the Gator bites and stuff off of the kids menu. All reports was that everything was good to great except the Gator Bites. They were a little chewy. All in all, a great night at a great casual restaurant on the beach. Highly Recommend!!

Not terrible, but not the best. The blackened mahi mahi was send-back worthy. The snow crab was very good. The waitress warned us (when my wife was contemplating ordering a steak with her snow crab) that "this is a seafood restaurant" and that the kitchen staff was, for some reason, known to be incapable of cooking red meat to requested temperatures. Turns out, I had occasion to experience this when I ended up ordering a cheeseburger after sending back the fish. Welllllllll done. But I ordered it medium. Oh wellllllllll.

    (2)
  • Blondie P.

I enjoyed my stuffed grouper, but one person in our party had the seafood pot pie and got very sick later that night and all the next day. Seems to be more a bar than serves food, which would be fine if we'd known that beforehand. - personally I can handle such appetizers and a couple of drinks. Better than so-so food. But it us a cute place.

  • Nancy C.

The best plate was the fried conch. Moving on to the "oysters" which were not even shucked properly so I had to yank them off the shell leaving a sliver of a bite considering that there was no meat there to begin with. Oh and they weren't cleaned, very gritty. Love paying for something that looked and tasted like it was just scooped off the coast. The local clams are a step up though the butter sauce its served with really adds no flavor. Overall, I thought the prices were great, then I saw them. The grouper reuben was a slippery mess. The bread wasn't even crusty, it was soft with oil. Not a great start to a day at the beach.

This place had wonderful seafood and I would definitely return on my next trip to Florida. We were a party of 4 and shared the conch fritters and buffalo shrimp as appetizers. Both fantastic. I had grilled scallops with French fries. The scallops were a bit overlooked for my taste but still pretty delicious. Everyone else ordered some form of the grouper and was thoroughly impressed. Fresh seafood and a great casual atmosphere!

  • Hana C.

Good fast service. I had the Bloody Mary that was decent but made impressive by the slew of toppings (cherry tomato, shrimp, hot pepper, and olive) and a great deal for only $7. We had the grouper cheeks, conch, and boiled shrimp all of which were excellent but the must have, do not miss are the grouper cheeks.

WHAT? CAN'T HEAR YOU! This is the basic outdoor tourist magnet seafood/bar, BUT THEY DO IT MUCH BETTER THAN ALMOST ALL THE REST! My only issue is the dinning room noise. I have seen live concerts of Metallica , Disturbed, Aerosmith, Sevendust, Live and Offspring to mention a few, they all combine did less damage to my auditory nerves than this place! The food was actually pretty good, not 5 star/iron chef quality, but good as far as tourist tap themed restaurants go. Service was also good. Great selection of typical fla style seafood. Nice setting. Prices were actually better than expected, $16 for a filet mignon and sides, $25 for 2# of crab legs w sides. All in all a surprisingly good place w good food. That being said I have never almost left during a meal because a place was so loud I couldn't hear myself think. I realize it was a bar and bars are loud but beyond the people yelling to hear each other there was still LOUD music. I really think if they turned down/off the music this place would be much better because it would be easier to hear and you wouldn't have to yell over music and other people yelling over music. After my ears stop ringing, I invest in ear plugs and learn to read lips I may return.

  • Elyssa H.

I had high expectations but found the food to be mediocre. The house salad was bagged iceberg lettuce drenched in what seemed like balsamic dressing from a bottle. The grouper Oscar was bland and dry with soggy asparagus and crabmeat that seemed like it came out of a can. On the plus side, The outdoor setting by the beach is very nice and the live music was entertaining.

Omgosh their octopus plate is so good. It's fresh and not rubbery and what else was outstanding was their corn on the cobb. I'm not a big fan of corn on the cobb but it was good. I would come again.

This review is based on food, service, cleanliness, price, and atmosphere. The food is good. I had grilled grouper tacos, and they were pretty delicious! It came with a side of beans and rice which was pretty good. The portions were on the small side. Luckily, I ordered a half dozen raw oysters on the half shell. The service was equally good. Our server was quick, and never disappeared for long periods. It was fairly busy, so I have to give kudos for staying on top of things so well. Cleanliness... this place has obviously been here a long time. The is both inside and outside seating; we chose to sit inside. There was nothing obviously neglected, but the test of time has clearly taken toll. This place could use an overhaul in my opinion, but some people like that rustic beach feel. Price is on the high end, but that is to be expected in this area. Being walking distance to the beaches, they have a primo location. The atmosphere is nice. What is expected at a beach bar/restaurant. The overall experience was pretty darn good!

Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe is tucked away off road next to Cooter's. Everything on the menu sounded great. From garlic crab fries, smoked fish spread to the Grouper Reuben. For apps we went with the fried gator tail since my sister's boyfriend never had gator and the cracked conch. The gator was delicious, but the conch was tough as hell. I don't ever remember conch being that tough. I was feeling adventurous and got baked octopus. Also got the She crab soup. The baked octopus came served in garlic butter with pepperocini and feta. It was different.. but I liked it. The she crab soup was creamy and delicious! My husband got the grouper nuggets. Soo good. I should have gotten Grouper! Sister got the crab cakes and was pretty good as well. Definitely would eat at Frenchy's again.

We saw that this was a chain on Clearwater but we figured we should try since we probably would never get it again! This is close to the beach and they have some happy hour deals that are good. This actually ended being my favorite meal. Check out the fun tropical drinks and the fish spread!

We were in the area to visit aquarium and stopped in for lunch based on the number of reviews. I didn't find anything very special or great about it. Probably our server, Debbie, didn't help much. My little one dropped his crayons bc the table was at a slant and I asked if he could have a few more. The server pointed out they were at my feet and she would have to open a new pack. Which was the impolite way to say no. The floor was a bit gross, so I didn't really want to give back to the toddler who has a tendency to still put his fingers in his mouth. But I'm cleanly/germ conscious. I asked to sub pasta salad instead of Cole slaw. Also a "no". I would be charged the additional $2, even though this is the same price as the Cole slaw. Didn't make sense to me. Service was a bit slow and didn't get drink refills. Ordered: Crab cake sandwich-decent crab cake, not the worst, certainly not the best. On a better quality bun. Cole slaw was good. Grouper Rueben-no complaints from hubby. Not the best grouper sandwich around but decent. Maybe if you are drinking a lot or are coning from a long day at beach, this place would be more appealing. I was just underwhelmed. Maybe we didn't order well. The host (male) was very friendly and waved goodbye and thanked us as we got in our car.

  • Gabriella D.

Service was impeccably great! Food was just meh today but I have dined here before it was pretty good. The server was polite, checked on us "just right" meaning not too much and not too little. Either the owner or cook came out and chatted with guests, he acknowledged us also which was nice. I ordered the original grouper which is fried. The sandwich is huge and comes with either a side of Cole slaw or chips, for 99 cents you can get a side of fries instead. The reason for the 4 stars is the fries were not that good at all. The sandwich was good but nothing I would develop a craving or taste for. The kids menu hot dog and chips were okay. Chips were kind of hard. But the hot dog was big and it said all beef on the menu. Without the great service and awesome location, beachy atmosphere, I probably would not return. But the atmosphere, location and service is what makes it 4 stars. If the food was better...especially side dishes, I would have been more satisfied. Next time I will try different options and get the server's recommended dishes before placing my order.

Great customer service. Very close to to the beach. Shoes and shirt not required. Heck, you can even dine in your swimsuit!! Go during happy hour. You can try most of the items on the menu for dirt-cheap.

Went for a quiet quick dinner with my husband without the kids. It's off season so it was not busy at all. It's a very cute place. Our waiter was really nice. Food was delicious. My husband had a pound of mussels. Delish. I had the famous grouper sandwich. I'd never had grouper but I figured when in Rome. I was really impressed. It was crunchy on the outside & super moist on the inside. I loved it. I had a frozen mango drink that was tasty. I will def be coming back.

The food was really good and the staff worked hard to take care of their guests despite being located in the middle of tourism madness. We sat outside in front of a gentleman on his guitar playing good vacation tunes. We tried its sister resturaunt "Frenchys Rockaway Grill" which is located directly on the beach, however I will take excellent food over a view anyday of the week. Frenchys Saltwater Cafe kicked her sisters ass in terms of the food and cocktails!

Delicious and fresh grouper. Everything was fresh and wonderful. My partner got the tropical chicken salad, and loved it as well. Try the dirty banana drink. Awesome !

Love the atmosphere! Bartenders fun, and helpful. Great margaritas. Food average. Fried. However, you can get grilled or blackened, delicious grouper.

5 stars all the way. service great. food great. atmosphere great. we got the medium stone crabs claws (since that's what you eat when you come to Florida) and nowhere else had them even though its in season. as I suggested in my tip, you have to try the she-crab chowder with frenchy's hot sauce. probably my sister's favorite part of the meal. so good that we're taking some to go. we also had the original grouper sandwich to share. nice and crisp, great beer batter. the grouper was nice and meaty inside. overall very satisfied and will definitely come back. will probably try the other frenchy's restaurants too

There are a number of Frenchy's restaurants in the Bay area. This one is a block off the water, so the location was just ok for Clearwater Beach. We had fried alligator to start. I've had fried gator a few times and this wasn't one of the best. The gator skin was dark and I had to chew it pretty hard. It came with a BBQ sauce on the side, but I think remoulade works much better with gator. Mom got a Greek salad with a grouper filet that had a huge hunk of potato salad in the bottom of the bowl. I'm sorry, but has anyone ever heard of a Greek salad with potato salad in it? At least the grouper was really good and the salad came in a unique oval-shaped bowl. Anyway, I had the candied bacon wrapped Sriracha scallops. The scallops were flavored in Sriracha and lime, wrapped in brown sugar bacon, seared, and baked. They were sweet, salty, smoky, and spicy. Very, very good. I also ordered a side of steamed veggies, which was a small bowl of broccoli, cauliflower, and two baby carrots. They definitely needed seasoning, so I used plenty of lemon, salt, and pepper. On a sidenote, Rebecca was our server and she was a real sweetheart. But I wasn't thrilled with the food quality. And how about having some local beers on the menu?

Shared the Ceviche and seafood trio and both were really great. I love the atmosphere and the service really made the visit worth it. Wish I hadn't been in a hurry to hit the road because I'm sure relaxing with a drink would have been great. We sat on the patio and truly enjoyed the view and the food. I will return!!!

First off let me start by saying that I should have known better then to try and go to Clearwater Beach with out-of-town guests on a Saturday night when the weather was nice and beautiful. It is a traffic & tourist nightmare of epic portion which results in driving around aimlessly looking for parking, walking blocks to the beach once you do park and waiting 45 minutes to an hour for a table at a local seafood restaurant. Now with that said, as a semi-local I happen to know that you can get a table and great grouper burger, both typically within an hour, at Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe. The Cafe is located off of the main tourist drag that is Mandalay Avenue but it's still walking distance to the beach and Pier 60. If you're traveling from downtown Clearwater, just before entering the car accident creating nightmare that is the Clearwater Beach round-about, make a right on East Shore drive and you will find Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe tucked away partly down the street on the left. Our party of 5 arrived at Frenchy's around 6:30pm, told the wait time was about 10 minutes and were then seated within 5. We ordered the Buffalo Shrimp and Spicy Conch Fritters as an appetizer. Both arrived promptly along with our mixed drinks, Sangria and house Margaritas - mixed nicely, not watered down but also not too strong. The main entrees ordered included the classic grouper sandwich, a grouper Ruben sandwich, the "tuna poke", and grilled mahi-mahi. Hands down the grouper sandwich and the grouper Ruben were the winners in this circle. The grouper was cooked to perfection - nice large filet of mild white fish in messy but oh-so delicious sandwich fixings. The grouper sandwich is the reason Frenchy's became famous and these meals were perfect examples of why. The grilled mahi was also tasty but it paled in comparison to the grouper. The tuna poke was a disappointment - fresh tuna slathered in a soy sauce combination on a bed of rice, topped with seaweed and avocado served in what appeared to be some sort of large champagne glass. Stick with the grouper and you can't go wrong. No dessert here, we were off to see the night life at Pier 60 but that's another review for another time!

We got the original grouper sandwich that's delish! Priced decent as well. A really nice place to get seafood if you visit Clearwater. This definitely satisfy our visit after the slow Clearwater aquarium trip

Who plans an overnight two hours away just for awesome grilled octopus. We do! Looks like a tacky tourist place but the good is first rate. $10 for a whole small grilled octopus Crab fries are good. Just noticed the chargrilled avocado stuffed with poke on sticky rice. Next order

Not bad bar food, but nothing more than that. Standard seafood fare - greasy and fried, nothing special. It's really hot inside too. Very convenient location.

I lucked out on this visit because it was "Stone Crab Festival Weekend!" The Stone Crab was delicious and cooked perfectly. Drenched in butter and hot...it was heaven. The ceviche was okay and served in a big fancy plastic margarita glass (fresh fish and shrimp marinated over a bed of cabbage). They had a good selection of beer and drinks to cool you off after a day on the beach. Overall, a nice friendly beach stop for hungry souls.

Best Frenchy's to be able to get in quick and have a great meal. I usually stick with the grouper nuggets, raw oysters, and Crab Fries. I love their Gumbo but they only serve it at the Original Frenchy's which is a block North... Bummer!

Lunchtime at frenchys. ..great staff...terrific food....Miss Eastwood loved her grouper tacos and one of the best beans and rice she has ever had. Well see later toot toot...My baked octopus with feta cheese was fantastic.. thanks for another great meal everyone!!!

Great Grouper! I stopped here with some friends during a weekend getaway, and we were looking forward to some good seafood. This place was our first stop for lunch, and we were not disappointed. We started with the fish dip, which came with crackers. Very good! We scarfed it down with some cocktails. I had a glass of sangria, which was refreshing. The Cajun grouper sandwich was excellent. Not too heavy and it was served on an onion roll that made this girl who is avoiding carbs enjoy every bite. I chose chips as a side, so I could keep dipping in the fish dip. The service was great. We sat at a smaller table, so our server came back a few times to clear what she could and keep our drinks refilled. Overall, a good experience!

The royal reds and grouper enchiladas for appetizers. Fried shrimp platters and grouper Reuben's were delightful

Came here last week, place was a little busy but we were seated right away, our server I think her name was Rebecca ( not sure if I got that right) but she was so cute and friendly and always smiling, there was a young girl busting her butt running food I asked the server if that girl was the food runner she told me "that's the manager" well I gotta say I've been in the restaurant business 40+ years and I never seen a manager work so hard, Frenchy is doing something right cause anyplace I've ever worked the managers usually spend most of their time sitting in an office, kudos to them for having management that cares about their customers and making sure our food gets out. I just moved to Clearwater and trust me I will be back, food was good, service was better,

The place is small and parking is a little hard to find. With that being said, well worth the minimal hassle. Had the Original Grouper sandwich with French Fries and a yummy dill pickle.

Fun, laid-back atmosphere you would expect from a beachside eatery. Grouper sandwiches were good, and the beer specials were affordable for lunch. The family and I definitely will return the next time we're on the west coast.

  • Tim F.

Vince was great. Let's make sure we put that on the table. Now the food: The stuffed grouper with a hollandaise sauce with capers was to die for. So perfect. The deep fried corn on the cob is the best side I've ever had. Even the grilled piece of bread was good. The only generic item was the Caesar salad. Bland, small and overpriced. This is a great spot. NOT on the water.

  • Clarence E.

The wait staff are definitely more friendly than the front/greeting folks. I can understand that it gets hectic and waiting patrons may not be as pleasant as those drinking and eating...but come on. It is the front of the house, you know. The wait does tend to be long at busy times but it is still worth it. After being seated, service was spot on.

Locals know....best grouper on the beach! The new additions are tasty. I had the grouper tacos and frenchys fries. The Bahamian sauce is yummy! Can't go wrong here.

Conch fritters are amazing! Crunchy and full of flavor- love the dipping sauce. Having the blackened grouper sandwich- that's all I usually get here because it's the best!!!

Came here for dinner last night. It was very crowded, but thankfully we didn't have to wait long to get a table. We were looking at the soups and discussing which one to try, when one of the staff, who overheard us told us that the best soup they have is the she-crab soup. At first we were hesitant, so he was kind enough to bring us samples of the soup. I have to admit, this was my favorite part of my meal. It was creamy, crabby goodness and we each ended up ordering a bowl of it. If you are feeling adventurous try the fried gator tails or the conch fritters!

    (5)
  • Sue H.

The place was busy. I waited 45 minutes for a table. My husband and I got the 4 Kings platter. We enjoyed our dish. My boys had the hamburgers and chicken tenders. They ate everything thing. I was surprised that my 3 year old ate all of his chicken tenders. He is a very picky eater and only likes his tenders cooked a certain way. Get the crab fries. They are tasty. What we didn't like was that our final bill for was more than expected. We were charged $15 for my kids'juice. I thought that drinks were included with refills but our waiter never told us other wise. Most places let you know that it is an extra charge. Other than that our dining experience was fine.

Went last night for dinner. My son had the conch soup- delicious!!! I had the royal red steamed shrimp as an app and they are juicy and sweet shrimp! I will order again. For main dishes we had the grouper sandwich which is always good and the stuffed grouper. The stuffed grouper was a little dry but the flavor was very good. Service was great - beer was cold and it's always wonderful to eat outside!

Great service delicious food. Grouper sandwich is "off the chart "! Andy was our server .... On top of his game! Thank you! Ordered the Mussels and Spicy Conch Fritters as a few appetizers - perfectly prepared. Loved the mustard sauce! Frenchy's also offers boat dockage for mariners - I like that....image that - a restaurateur that thinks about his customers / mariners. Other restaurants in the area need to noticed. Simply & smart. Thank you - we're customers that visit this Resturant regularly from Spring Hill by boat. This weekend we enjoyed The Powerboat Races... PS: consider Sam Adams "OctoberFest " seasonal beer ...

After being told the wait was over an hour long at another establishment up the street...we decided to another block down to Frenchy's and was greeted right away by a guy (who was very nice). He bussed a couple of tables and sat us within five minutes--around 7:30 pm. There was still a steady flow of people coming & going. Our server (Sasha) was pleasant but not extremely attentive. I had a side salad, the filet mignon and fries. Everything was good. The hubby thoroughly enjoyed the Cajun shrimp, cole slaw and seasonal veggies. He was disappointed with the lack of selection of craft beers. Friendly suggestion :-) We were going to order dessert, but we didn't see Sasha for quite some time. So, we just got the check and left. Nice experience on the front end--not so much on the back end ...hence the three star rating.

Came around 7:30 on a Sunday night and wow this place was busy! But no wait, and our server Tyler was the bomb! He got triple sat but greeted us and the other two tables right away and was very friendly and attentive. If you love Rueben, get the grouper Rueben! Its different to have a Rueben with fish... But it was juicy and delectable! And peanut butter pie for dessert was the cherry on top! SO GOOOOOOD

For the past 15 years that I've been coming to Clearwater Beach Frenchy's resturants have always been a destination that I looked forward to. In all the 15 years I've never had a bad meal and never been disappointed. My visit today changed that and in the worst way. I guess frenchy's doesn't care about the quality of the food served because the royal red shrimp I got today are terrible. They are brown and fall apart when u try to open them. I'm actually worried to eat them because they look so bad. We got 3 orders and 1 of the orders is completely different from the rest. The other two orders are nice and red like there supposed to be. I'm never eating at frenchy's again. If they don't care enough to not serve this bad quality possibly dangerous food then I don't care to eat there anymore.

We came here after the Frenchy's on the beach was full. I started with fried alligator tail. The seasoning was great with its spices. I didn't use the included crummy bbq sauce. I ordered the seafood sampler with Cajun. Seasoning. It was all very good and the spices were hotter than expected but not too hot. I ordered garlic bread as my side which was underwhelming. The drink prices were very reasonable. I good seafood tourist restaurant for a good price.

I love all of the Frenchy's in Clearwater because I'm a huge fan of their grouper sandwiches! The Cajun grouper is awesome and so are the onion straws. For beer lovers, they have Kona Longboard beer here! I only give it a four because there is usually a long long wait, which actually means it is a popular place!

2 Stars only because my meal was actually quite delicious! Before ordering our meal, we noticed a man at the table next to us who seemed quite upset and ended up sending his meal back to be replaced. I understand things like this happen, but this only seemed to continue. I ordered the grilled scallops and shrimp meal and thought it was a great meal at as awesome price. My friend, on the other hand, ordered crab legs, which came out cold to the point where the meat was unattainable. When she told Sasha, the waitress, about her cold meal, she was not apologetic at all. Her meal was re-made and served steaming hot, as crab legs should be! Sasha did not seem to be enthused at all about her job, and while I understand people have bad nights, this is still your job... We are from Minnesota, so when we asked Sasha for her opinion on meals, all she said was "everything is great"... OK!? The restaurant was not busy at all by the time we were served, yet she barely came around to ask if we needed anything. When she eventually did come back to ask if we needed anything, she so quickly assumed we were fine, as she had already started to turn away. We had to hail her back, as we were interested in getting another drink. Unfortunately our whole dinner talk was about the awful service we were receiving. Near the end of our meal, we actually saw another couple across from us return their meal. The woman looked absolutely disgusted, and as they got up to leave after paying for their drinks, we kindly asked why they sent their meal back. They had found a very long hair in their burger... yuck! The fact that we saw two tables return meals and we ourselves had to return one is absolutely ridiculous. We were referred to check this place out, and left very unhappy. I will not be returning to this particular location when I return to Clearwater Beach. Some tips: 1. If you work in this type of business, put on a happy face and act like you want to be there... Even if you don't want to. That is how you get your tips, and Sasha most definitely did not earn a great one. 2. When (at least) 3 meals are returned within an hour, this should be a sign that management should step in and analyze the meals before they are served. 3. When meals ARE returned, the manager on shift should be the one to bring out the new meal to apologize and cater to their unhappy guests. This is your chance for a clean slate with your guest, and potentially turn a bad experience into a great one. Overall, I was very disappointed with my experience here. I feel that with the right staff and more professional management, this location could be much more successful!

There are many Frenchy's in Clearwater. This is my 2nd favorite one. Love the different funky appetizers. The last time I had the conch fritters and alligator bites. Delicious, yes tastes like chicken, but very good. And you almost always have to get a grouper sandwich. Even if you live in Florida, if you go to Frenchy's you always feel like your on vacation

  • Denver G.

I thought this place would be better than it truly was. We originally wanted to go to the Frenchy's on the beach to see the sunset, listen to live music and have good seafood, but they are closed the whole month for renos. This location (many of them, hope this is the right one) is super small. Has a very homey dirty dive bar feel. Seat yourself or write your own name on the table wait list. We got the fried shrimp basket as a starter. They were very good, crisp and bigger than I expected. We got a cajun grouper sandwich and an original fried grouper sandwich (fries were extra). Food is good, but not off the chart. Very messy and a tad bit over priced ($11.50-13.50 + extra for fries ). No happy hour either, although a bud light draft was $1.50 which is super cheap in my book. Service and staff were attentive and prompt.

I went there on 6/13/15 for my 28th birthday dinner with my partner. The service was prompt and friendly and efficient. I had the mango delight drink, which was excellent. I also had the raw oysters for my appetizer and they were decent. The crab legs were fantastic and the crab cake was delicious. I loved the atmosphere, food, and the staff. I would definitely come back here and would recommend this place to anyone, especially the crab legs.

We've fished out of Clearwater a few times and our guides have recommended Frenchy's each time. It's the only place that serves fresh, local seafood, they said. We've now been here twice and it's a pretty good, relaxed, casual spot to have a drink and lunch. By no means is it going to wow anyone, but it's definitely a nice spot with fair service and great local grouper dishes. I've had most of the apps here and the soups. The Cajun Conch Chowder is darn good, even when it's 90 outside. Our last batch of oysters was full of so many pieces of shells it was impossible to eat. The clams are worth a try, too. This last visit I ordered the Specialty Salad and topped it with grouper. The blackened grouper was awesome, but unfortunately a head of iceberg lettuce that was barely cut and poor dressing was what I remembered most. As great as the grouper was, even a small effort with quality lettuce and a few veggies would have been a home run. The grouper sandwiches are worth a bite, too.

I went to this place the other day for the first time. I ordered a crab cake and 1/4 lbs(=4 shrimp) of peal and eat shrimp.... The food is not extremely expensive but it's not worth the price because the portions are too small. They give you random sauces so it makes you ask for the more common one that you're used to.. That way you pay extra for it. The food was ok.. I'd advice anyone who's actually going to have a real meal to go somewhere else because it is not worth the price.

This is our third Frenchys in 3 days. Clam chowder is a must try... Onion straws are good, big portion. Drinks are strong. Food is yummy. Tyler is on top of service. Great staff all around. Key Lime pie was awesome. Creamy smooth and made by Regina locally. Loved the full visit!

We came here on the recommendation of our cab driver in Clearwater. Unfortunately, the experience didn't match the expectation. Everything was Meh, as my girlfriend so eloquently states. They do have a gluten free menu, a big plus for me. However, when my meal was served it had bread on the plate, an extremely scary indication to someone who adheres to a strict gluten free diet. For starters my girlfriend had the conch and I had the grouper tamales. Both were OK. Be sure to utilize the hot sauces with the tamales or the hot sauces on the table to give them a little extra kick. For entrees, I had the crab stuffed grouper and my girlfriend the shrimp, scallop and grouper platter. Overall, the plates were OK with nothing descriptively notable, aside from the fact that they were filling. The sides weren't very good, potato salad is extremely bland and the cole slaw more vinegary. There is pineapple juice in the cole slaw that gives it an interesting tang. Service wasn't great. Low attentiveness, forgot drinks during dinner, low awareness for dietary needs. Prices are very reasonable. The food and the experience was below average. However, if your looking for good food volume at a reasonable price - and not much more - this is your place.

I've been to Clearwater 3x now and our first meal is always lunch at Frenchy's. This location is closest to where we stay. For appetizers, I've had the conch fritters and cracked conch. The fritters are a good starter if you're trying conch for the first time. I personally prefer the cracked conch which is breaded and fried (similar to fried calamari). Both come with bahamaian sauce. For an added kick, I like mixing it with hot sauce. For lunch, I've gotten a grouper sandwich each time and have had it fried, Cajun, and grilled. You can't go wrong with any of them, but the Cajun was my favorite. I also tried a bite of my bf's tequila lime shrimp tacos which were listed as a special earlier this month. They had a lot of flavor and I'd love to see them added to the regular menu.

First trip to Frenchy's Salt Water Cafe. What a place. Great service for two Adults and two kids under 9. Chris was our waiter and was all over every aspect of the meal. My better half ordered the grouper Egg Roles and thought they were good. I ordered the all you can eat crab claws which is offered on Monday and Tuesday. The crab claws were AWESOME. Others have posted poor reviews, but I thought they tasted great. The flounder was good as well. I recommend the corn in the cob as well. A special treat this far south. The drinks were great as well. The Rum runner packs a solid punch and having Leinenkugels was a great cap on the evening. Can't wait to come back on my next visit. Request Chris when you visit.

Went for lunch with my wife. They had some great specials including the cheeseburger (only $4.95!) and a Southern Tier IPA for only $1.50. We had the grouper cheeks as a appetizer, which were amazing. Been to the other Frenchy's locations, but never this one. Great service and we will definitely return.

The Cherrystone clams were sweet and succulent. Their Tuesday special, Sirloin hoagie was exceptional. Their French fries were perfect, and although very tasty, the crab mac & cheese could have been a little creamier for my taste. A fun, beachy place with vey good food!

So, so good. In from out of town and we decided to try this place. It's a little off the path from the beach, but it's so worth the detour. Kitchy atmosphere is totally fun for someone from our of town. The grouper is awesome. The original grouper sandwich was so good, I had to take a picture of it. Their strawberry mojitos are the perfect way to end a day of walking around in the sun and the French fries were addictively good!! So glad I talked my husband into stopping in and the price is definitely right!!

We had a nice evening here. We couldn't have a table without waiting (on a Sunday) so we ate at the bar which was fine. The only points against them were that it was a little loud (it's a bar, I know) and for the smaller size of the bar itself, the 2 bartenders could have been a little more attentive. The food was very good though! The Fried Alligator Tail App was good (could taste the swamp a bit though) and the Mussels were awesome. We had the Crab Mac & Cheese, The Seafood Trio with a side of black beans which were both very good. Would definitely recommend Frenchy's but try to get a table in my opinion.

Adore, adore, adore this place. Frenchy's in general is a great restaurant with so many locations, but this one offers all-u-can eat snow crab legs on Tuesday and Thursday and let me just tell you....they lose money on me. LOL! The snow crabs come out steamed and seasoned slightly, served with fries, coleslaw and a hunk of fried flounder. While everything is delicious, don't bother with things you can get any time. Chow on the snow crab. The wait staff is friendly, nice, and attentive and will make sure that your crabs are constantly refilled and your shell bowl is emptied to keep up with your pace. There are many other great things on the menu, but if you're a seafood lover like we are and you like to get your crab legs on, this is the place for you.

We came down to Clearwater beach to see how the beach compared to Siesta Key. This is definitely more of a tourist area. Also, we came right when Taste of Clearwater event was about to start. Due to the congestion of traffic, I even got suckered to pay $20 for parking since it was so close to the pier but we got tired of driving in circles looking for somewhere cheaper. Lesson learned. After a nice time at the beach we decided to keep it simple for dinner. Service: We arrived with party of five around 5pm, and decided to dine inside since most of the patio tables were taken. It took the hostess a bit to join two smaller tables together. Our server was Mike, I would say he was pretty attentive even with juggling other tables of parties of four or more. Even though we did order pitchers of sangria and shock top Mike was good on water refills. He did forget one of our friends entree order and she was waiting a bit. Food: Fried Calamari - This is the first time I've had it served with honey mustard. I didn't try it as I'm more used to using this sauce for chicken. And well to me, calamari is a food that doesn't taste like chicken. The calamari seems to be either mixed with two different batches. It comes with the "O" rings which you can assume isn't prepped on site. But also came with the bottom half, the tentacles. Both sides are lightly battered and fried until crispy. Still retaining a juicy texture. If they always cook it this well, I can forgive on the "O" rings of calamari. Worth a try. Fresh Oysters - I'm not an oyster connoisseur myself, but my friends who tore it up stated that they were pretty decent sized and fresh. Each piece was cleaned thoroughly with out any taste of sand. Tuna Poke - A friend of mine ordered this as her entree. She informed that the paste/sauce accompanying the tuna was a bit overpowering. It masked more of the flavor of the tuna then anything. She actually ended up scrapping most of the sauce off and eating the tuna pieces bare. The appetizer came served in a wide rim (I believe) wine glass. Seafood Ceviche - Another friend ordered an appetizer as an entree, which befitting as it comes served in a pretty big margarita glass. This version comes served with diced tomatoes. I'm sure Ceviche purists would not call this authentic. The sweet potato chips that are used to top off the dish are too brittle to actually use to dip into the ceviche. We just placed those on the side just to munch on separately. There is a good amount of fish and small pieces of scallops. Good amount of lime and other juices keeps this dish well moist on each bite. Do order for sharing to taste the quality of seafood. Do not order if you want a seafood entree. Frenchy's Seafood Medley - Cooked Cajun styled : This dish comes with a very nice amount of shrimp and scallops, grouper. I had given a few pieces to about 4 friends and had plenty of food left for myself mainly to my friend whose order was forgotten. Each piece of seafood was well blacken with a good amount of cajun seasoning seared on each side. I would skip on order this dish fried just how good it is cajun style. I also ordered a side of pasta salad which was also very good. A light coat of oil for taste and pasta cooked perfectly al dente. I'm not sure what the name of the sauce that comes with the dish, it's not really tarter sauce. But man I wish I could get more of it. Slightly sweet, I couldn't help but dip each piece of seafood until it was gone. Mahi-Mahi - served as a sandwich. I'm not sure if the server misheard my friend or made this a special request but my friends mahi-mahi actually came out fried. Before she could correct the order to change it to the Seafood Medley, Mike had already stated it was about to come out. She took one bite and immediately let the table knew that there was really no taste to the fish. I believe cajun style on this one would help the sandwich as well. The homemade potato chips were good but not enough to make up for the fish. Skip on this. Red Sangria - (Blackberry) the girls in our group actually ordered this to share among the three of them. There was enough for each to get two glasses, but they stated that it was pretty weak and bland. Seems like a miss on this one. Overall: A good place for decent priced seafood if you want to avoid the higher or cheesy places around clearwater beach.

A Clearwater tradition for sure. Frenchy's has been here I think forever, and there's definitely a reason for that. The atmosphere is great. The food is great. The location is great. The whole place is awesome, bet you thought I'd say great. If you come here and don't get the grouper you're crazy. It's the 3rd best grouper sandwich I've ever had, and I've been eating them every chance I get for the last 25 years. The best one was at a place on the intercoastal down near Indian Rocks called Melons, sadly they are no longer in business. The second best, or now the best, is at Molly Goodheads in Ozona. And the only real reason I say Frenchy's isn't as good, is it costs more by about $3.00, and comes with chips instead of fries. So I guess you could say it's tied for the best tasting grouper sandwich in the world. They also have a she crab soup that is OMG. It's so good my father has actually been know to drive over here from Orlando just to get some for lunch.

Good food fast service, was here with my family, ordered a lot of fried appetizer and they were good. The grouper and the maho ahi were good. I just wished their side veggies were not frozen

Great food twice in 3 days Very good service at the bar from Mike and Sasha. The fried and steamed oysters we excellent. In the first night we tried to sit in the dining room bit the wait was long. We slid right into the bar for an awesome time.

Good beach atmosphere, and ice cold beer. The smoked fish spread and crackers were good, but I've had lots better. What really disappointed me about this place is the Stone Crab. It's not available all the time, and I really thought I was fortunate to travel to Clearwater Beach during the season. The first time I went in, even though they were advertising Stone Crab, they were out. They sent me down the street to one of their other restaurants with the assurance that they had them. Nope! The next night I called to make sure and went in to get my much anticipated Stone Crab claws. I ordered the large, even though it was over $30, anticipating a big plate of claws like I had at Joe's Stone Crab in Miami. What I got for my money were 4 very small claws. I checked to make sure that it was indeed a large order, and was assured that it was. They were good, not great, and definitely not worth the $31 I paid for them.

The food was decent, but it was so loud no one in our party could here each other and we had some problems with getting the wrong orders. Over-all it wasn't bad.

2 years later and it lived up to my memory...I can't believe how time flies. Dad and I took Mom and my brother out for lunch and it was delish fish! Between the three of us, we tried fried grouper, grilled grouper and cajan grouper. The veggies were very garlicky and over cooked to my taste but I wasn't there for the veggies. The fries are a better compliment to the fish, in my opinion. I wanted to try the strawberry basil lemonade but we ended up with just waters all around. We sat inside this time around...its loud, its always crowded but none of that detracted from the food. :)

I went for lunch last Saturday afternoon. Being that the beach was packed, I figured we'd have to wait, but luckily there was 1 table for 2 available right away. They had some decent drink specials, so my friend and I had pints of beer as well as the smoked fish spread appetizer to start. All was good with that. Being that we wanted a "light" lunch, we opted to split a buffalo chicken sandwich also. While it's probably one of their most popular items and was pretty tasty, I would actually recommend the buffalo grouper instead. It's heavenly. Also they have great specials on crab legs, etc during the week. Overall this was a good spot for a quick tasty pre beach lunch and I would go again next time.

Gotta love the French'y restaurants! They have amazingly fresh seafood with some of the best Shecrab soup ever! The atmosphere is always hopping with a wide range of people from tourists to locals. The prices are resonable and the staff is execellent...they never seem to have enough parking but I can get past that!

Out of all of the Frenchy's this one is our favorite. We've only been coming here for 20 years now so I think you can say it's a favorite. We started coming here when I was young for vacations and now that I live here full time, I wish I went more. My mom loves the grouper sandwiches. I'm not a big fan of grouper so I can't give a review but that's ALWAYS what she orders. Also a favorite with my family and I, the fish spread, raw oysters, mussels, and I always order the crab legs! Some nights of the week they have all you can eat crab legs and other times, they have a great deal on lobster! I'm not a big fan of stone crab, but this place is normally packed. It's very casual and the service is usually good. Sometimes we have to kind of push along our meal with our waiters but, I think that's what you get when you're the most popular place in town with cheap prices! Everyone is always friendly and it's a must try if you love seafood!

The place is a little "beach worn" (faded paint ,etc) but the food was very good and the service and beach atmosphere were excellent. If you want good beach/seafood eats...put this on the list while in CWB-FL

Food was 3.5 stars, rounded down due to service. Ate a late lunch at Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe while vacationing in Clearwater. At first glance, it had pretty neat decor and paintings of fish and marine life everywhere. The open air dining is a nice touch, and the ceiling fans help combat the humidity. It was pretty empty inside but we missed the lunch crowd and were too early for the dinner crowd. Even so, service was spotty at best. We waited about 10 minutes just for water, and when we needed "a little more time" to peruse the menu, we waited about another 10 minutes while our server chatted with her coworkers at the bar. That was sorta disappointing. We shared the Mussels in Brodo sauce (butter, basil, tomatoes, oregano, garlic, sambuca) as an appetizer. First off, coming from the Northeast, a whole plate of mussels for $8 is a steal! The mussels were fresh and meaty. Unfortunately, we were only given two super-thin slices of bread for dipping. I'm talking thin like the bread fell apart in the sauce and I had to rescue it with a spoon thin. Bread-dipping was pretty much non-existent. (Insert major sad face here.) The sambuca was pretty strong, so although I was hoping for a savory sauce, it was immensely sweet. Overall not bad for the price. For entrees we had the Tequila Lime Shrimp Tacos and the Frenchy's Seafood Medley. The tacos were decent, but I found the chipotle sauce to be very watery and the limes were kind of dried out. The Seafood Medley was a touch on the bland side, but the corn on the cob that came with it was sweet. I'm still trying to figure out what's so great about grouper. Our server only came back once to refill waters and we didn't see her again until she decided to leave the check for us.

We loved all our grouper meals! Also, the all-you-can-eat crab legs was good too! Service was fast & staff was nice. Fun atmosphere.

Grouper!! I had the baked Grouper with crab and my friend got the fried grouper. both yummy. We sat outside on a warm Dec Florida afternoon. Drank a few drafts.. which they have a decent selection.

I had the grilled mahi and my hubbie had the steak sandwich. Here's our tip: don't go here! The food was terrible and overpriced and the service left a lot to be desired.

I had the benefit of eating at this place just before the sunset, so the sun was shining, the weather was sweet. It also made me want to move my dancing feet. Okay that was a little Bob Marley, but the vibe was totally Bob, including the reggae man playing some of my favorite bob tunes live. LOVED THAT. I got the Jerk Shrimp, and I don't know if it was fresh, and locally caught, but it tasted super fresh too me, and the Jerk sauce was done right! Great job. I just had fries with it, which were unassuming and plain (not sure why I can't get decent fries in Florida but that is a problem). The Shrimp more than made up for it. It didn't stuff me, and was a midrange price of $15 for 8 decent at best sized shrimp, but they seasoned those incredibly. I would recommend to anyone wanting to enjoy a nice local, and festive environment, The musician almost pushed this place to a 5, but hey I rate on food.

I grew up in Clearwater, Florida and Frenchy's was always the best place to eat on the beach. It is Legend and all of us locals have been meeting at Frenchy's our whole lives for their fish spread and grouper sandwiches. For those of us who left town, Frenchy's was one of the first stops we would make to satisfy our longing for a sirlioner and some conch fritters. It couldn't be beat and all of us who grew up on Clearwater Beach and surrounding cities would flock to get our fix. I have to preface my review on what it use to be because my 2 stars is based on that comparison. Several years ago, they started to slowing change to a more corporate environment that got rid of all the personal touches that many of us loved so much. First they changed the batter on their shrimp (horrible). The buffalo shrimp use to be some of my favorite, but last time I ordered them, I had to leave the whole plate - no to go box needed. Shortly following the buns all became stale. Then this past trip home, all the short glass they once served beers in where replaced by plastic cups. Which doesn't make sense from the customer satisfaction end and definitely horrible for the environment. All in all, what was once a very nostalgic place for me has slowly turned into an environment and establishment that does not care about quality but the quantity of tourist it can churn in and out of there. Unfortunately, they are failing at this because the success of the restaurant was in the details that were important at one time, but are no longer attended to. I still love Clearwater Beach, but I have to part ways with Frenchy's. I am disappointed every time. Here is the the next Clearwater visionary... __________________________________ Things not to order: -Sirlioner is no longer a special burger. It is just a bad burger on a stale bun. So sad. It was my favorite. -Buffalo Shrimp - The new batter taste like playdo :( -Baked Octopus use to melt in your mouth and was served with a small silver oyster fork. Now it is only okay and served with plastic forks (I hope they are recycling) - Any Sandwich - the buns are stale. You could make a better smoked turkey sandwich at home. The one thing that taste the same: - Fish Spread - This is why I gave it 2 stars and not 1 - Come for the fish spread with some Frenchy's hot sauce - this is still actually good. But get it before they replace it with some other "less than version".

This place is a bit over rated people. THe food was good, but nothing special. Maybe, I am missing something, but I dont understand the hype. I was recommended by two people to try it out...a little disappointed. THe service and location were great. I understand that it is very mucha dive place and very casual, but the food was very mediocre at best. THe drinks were watery(maybe due to the slow service because of the popularity, I'm truly not sure) Our waitress was great, just a little slow on getting things. She never forgot anything though and did her best to stay on top of refills. I ordered the buffalo shrimp. They came out very soggy, so I was disappointed and thought to myself, Hooters would have been better. :( My fiance ordered the grouper tacos and I think those came out pretty well. They had a nice flavor and texture. To finish this one out, I would say go only if you want to do the touristy thing to say you did it. Otherwise...SKIP IT!!!

We came here for casual dinner. This place is Crowded! Be here in time. If you are in a party more than 4 you need to be here before 6.30-7pm. Be prepared to wait 45 min otherwise. We came abt 7 pm and was told it would take 30min for us two, but luckily we hardly got to sit down at the bar before they called us. Laidback atmosphere. Noisy. (Very loud) Grouper nuggets are good but not the best tartar dip sauce we've had. We had a pitcher of beer. Afterwards we heard their sangria is something else! Their Grouper sandwich is spicey and tasty !! The cajun chicken sandwich is good. Good sized portions. Desserts - They only had two to choose from - We had one of each. Peanut Butter Pie & Key Lime Pie. Both very good. Great service!

Visited while on a family vacation. This place has it all. Great food, cool atmosphere, great service. The waitstaff and management were so cool and friendly. The menu is pretty varied: lots of seafood, but also a variety of other great kid-friendly dishes. The place is definitely a great place for kids, but cool enough that you could hang out here with friends and grab a few beers or their specialty drinks. Delicious! We rode bikes so I can't comment on parking, which is limited overall on Clearwater Beach. But Frenchy's is definitely a most-stop place if you're in the area. Highly recommended!

Seriously the freshest fish I've ever eaten. NO DEEP AT THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN TASTE :D I've always been flippy floppy on eating fish. I'm not a fan of it but Frenchy's has changed my mind! If I could eat fish as fresh as this... I would eat it everyday!

One of the best meals I've ever had!!! I make trips to Clearwater from Orlando occasionally just so I can come here for dinner. Everything on the menu I've tried is delicious, but I'd have to say that their Cajun shrimp and scallops is the best seafood dish I've ever eaten. I don't know what they do to their corn on the cob, but I generally order 2!!! Super friendly service, good prices, delicious food and great location!!! Absolutely my favourite restaurant in Florida!!!

Unfortunately my daughter and I didn't have a good experienced with our food, both of us got really sick, in less than an hour we went back to the hotel; she got the grouper sandwich, and I got the tuna poke (the tuna looked kind of slimy, not very fresh). I was there on 1/3/14, and reading some of the reviews we weren't the only ones that got sick, hopefully it's a very rare happening. I'm willing to give it another try based on other people reviews. On the plus side the ambiance is very nice, the staff is very attentive, and the fries are really good.

Went on the rec of some friend. We're not disappointed. Had the the conch app. Very tasty sauce. I had the grouper sandwich and it was so tender and flaky. Wife had the seafood platter. She liked her grouper and the shrimp were huge. The scallops were over cooked I think. Had the pumpkin cheesecake and she thoroughly enjoyed it. Great place. Real laid back.

I took my family to Frenchy's during their much publicized Stone Crab Festival to share with them my love of Crabs. It was to be their first experience of Stone Crabs and I was elated to be able to teach them the joy of crabs. We ordered with great excitement. After receiving drinks and exceedingly mediocre appetizers: boneless chicken wings and grouper egg rolls...our server returned to tell us that THEY WERE OUT OF STONE CRABS! At 4 PM in the afternoon. After I expressed my displeasure our server checked to find out if they still had crabs at their sister location...and indeed they did! We ordered more drinks and waited patiently assuming the crabs would be delivered imminently. Finally, and shockingly, our server returned with our check and asked if we needed anything else! We explained that we hadn't eaten yet! We then discovered that they had no plan to deliver more crabs to our location but that we were to pick ourselves up and tromp off to their other restaurant for our experience of the "Stone Crab Festival". I have NEVER been more disappointed at a restaurant and needless to say will never dine at any Frenchy's location again. The place is a disaster. Definitely do not go there.

I've been to all the frenchy's locations and this is one of my favorites. I ate here quite a bit since my last trip we stayed in the frenchy's oasis motel directly behind it. I find the atmosphere at this location nice and I've always found room at the bar to eat and found the bartenders to be friendly and attentive, I love bartenders that talk! As for food, I've enjoyed a lot of it! Grouper nuggets, grouper egg rolls, she crab soup, fish tacos, chicken fingers are all very good. This last time I had the blue claw stuffed mushrooms and they are amazing. I also ate a dinner, usually we just do apps, I got the grilled scallop and shrimp, fresh seafood cooked perfectly with a large side of steamed veggies. Seafood is always fresh, and I'm addicted to their house brand of hot sauce and the Bahamian sauce.

I had the fried super grouper. It was too big to finish! Very messy. I lost control half way through and it just went soggy. My bf had the Cajun grouper sandwich and finished the whole thing. The beers are also very inexpensive.

I was here about a year ago visiting family and decided I needed to try the she crab soup, I was NOT disappointed! The soup was delicious as was the grouper sandwich. Granted it was a stupidly hot Florida day, I didn't care. I was so happy with my soup and sandwich, that I came back the next day and had the exact same lunch. Be warned that this place is literally on the beach; seeing girls butt cheeks hanging out while you're trying to eat isn't exactly appetizing, but hey I'm not gonna knock a business because they cater to the beach goers.

  • Brian W.

Food is OK to good. Avoid the king crab legs completely...grainy and flavorless. Calamari and conch fritters OK. All fried seafood (e.g. Shrimp, scallops) good. Only fresh fish worth your time is grouper. Mahi mahi is a non-starter. Kids menu is a hit for picky kids.

  • Kathy W.

We had the grouper (Cajun) and it was good. Conch fritters were good too- the sauce was really good that accompanied. Didn't care for the appetizer mushrooms, but they did have a lot of crab in them (just didn't care for the flavor).

I'm a Florida native and had never eaten here until I went back to visit my family. We went on a busy weekend night and had to wait about an hour for a table. I had the friend grouper, which was excellent. The restaurant is very small and crowded, so if you're traveling with kids and strollers, keep in mind that you will probably have to roll the strollers under the table. They also sell t-shirts here or you can walk to their gift store a few blocks away for a larger selection. Great dining experience and I won't hesitate to return the next time I'm home.

Went with the parents, the atmosphere was typical touristy kitch. The service was ok but a little spotty: we had to ask for refills. The dozen oysters on the half shell were nothing short of tiny, but the fish and chips were good. The parents said they'd be back, though.

Oceanside breeze, sun, sand, and amazingly fresh grouper. They told us it's caught in the morning and served at lunch- cant get better than that and it was clear in the taste. Delicious delicate and very fresh grouper any way you could want it prepared. I had it as the clasic sandwich-yum! Grilled cajun style was great too. Shrimp appetizer was equally freshand tasty. Love this place and would go back if I'm in Tampa/Clearwater again.

I am not a seafood lover, and this was very very good! I had the original grouper sandwich and it was fabulous! Husband had the grouper Reuben and one of our daughters had the grilled grouper. The younger two opted for traditional American selections - chicken strips and a corn dog. Nice that they had options available for those who refuse to try seafood. So glad we stopped here!

Friendly staff and awesome food and frozen Rum Runners that kicked my butt. I started with the Crab Shack - alternating layers of fried green tomatoes and crab meat covered in Hollandaise sauce. It was amazing. I had the signature grouper rueben and it was really good--messy and flavorful. Ask for a side of their tarragon sauce to dip your fries in. The stuff is like crack. Unreal. I'll be going back before I leave town.

I love the atmosphere at Frenchy's. It's so laid back and the servers are wonderful. I had the grouper sandwich which was came out fresh, hot and delicious! My boyfriend had the cajun grouper sandwich and it was just as good, just a little spicier. The fries are to die for. We tried the key lime pie. It was good, obviously not as good as the key lime pies in the Keys.

The food: very good. The service: outstanding! Overall: highly recommended! Family of 4 (2 kids), walk-ins for Monday early dinner, the place wasn't too busy, we got seated right away, no issues. The waitress was very helpful with the menu, gave us plenty of time, got us on-track for the meal. Since the adults were slow with the menu, she gladly took the kids' order and got that back to us very quickly. Happy kiddo! We tried the fish spread. Very nice! One adult ordered the medley (grouper, shrimp, scallops) and everything was good. One adult ordered the baked grouper and didn't care for the crab spread topping (very loaded with red and bell peppers). Otherwise, it was also decent. The orange blossom (?) pie for dessert was tasty (just like a dreamsicle!). Prices were about on-par for the area. Beverages, appetizer, 2 adult entrees, 1 kid entree, 1 dessert, total tab with tax was around $55. Definitely check this place out when you'r e at Clearwater Beach.

Service was not really there, the food that changed it for me. Visiting I tried out Frenchy's because of the reviews and the overall scenery and restaurant is great! You can sit outside to catch the breeze as well as for me it was hitting evening so I got to enjoy the sunset. When I first got there I picked a seat, because there wasn't a wait to be seated and had to get up and ask for a menu, and I did politely ask was it fine I sat where I was and the barista had no problem with it. So finally got some service. The menu has a great variety for seafood, and some I've never recognized coming from the North. I went simple because I didn't want a huge meal when we were going out that night and went with Mahi Tacos side black beans. I didn't enjoy the smell but seafood is seafood. They taste alright with hot sauce. It was smaller than what I thought it be. I'm glad I read down and made room for peanut butter pie dessert they serve from a local place here. That was delicious. Overall the restaurant wasn't super cluttered and relaxed. The prices aren't bad for what I ordered and seen. Good atmosphere just needs more attentiveness for customers.

If you come to clearwater and like seafood, you need to find your way to Frenchy's. It is walking distance from many of the hotels in Clearwater beach, and so worth the walk. It might be a 30 min wait too, but totally worth the wait! We had the fried gator appetizer, which was fabulous. It comes served with BBQ sauce, but I also asked for ranch too. Both sauces were fabulous with the caijun gator. For the entree, I ordered the Grouper with scallops and shrimp. It was accompanied by their homemade potato salad which was excellent!! The grouper was perfectly cooked and the shrimp and scallops were heavenly. I tried some of my boyfriend's catfish and it was a beautiful fish with a great cornmeal breading.... but really, you should try any of the fish on the menu! Can't wait to go back!!

Tasty seafood, cold Stella and great location near the Clearwater beaches, what's not to like? We had the peel and eat shrimp for an appetizer and they were perfectly steamed nice jumbo pink Gulf shrimp with shells on, only thing that would have been better is if they had been deveined. The she-crab soup was good too, with lots of crab in a slightly too thick creamy soup, great flavor though. My lunch was the snapper Baja tacos which was some cicely grilled snapper and shredded cabbage with a nice spicy sauce. My sister had their fish and chips which had a thick slightly greasy batter that turned out to taste better than it looked with nice crispy edges. Add a couple of pints of ice cold Stella and you have some beachside happy goodness. Oh, for a decadent treat dip some of their tasty French fries into the crab soup, yummo-licious!

Great food and service. Started off with grouper bites and onion straws, delicious. For the main course I ordered the rock lobster tail. The tail was a good portion and perfectly cooked. The pasta salad was fresh and flavorful. The server, Chris, was knowledgable and attentive. The only negative comment that I might add is that other members of our party ordered clam strips and they were overcooked.

Had the fried grouper sandwich for dinner. Kids had buff wings and hamburger. Calamari for app. Husband had grilled grouper, rice and coleslaw and we loved. Went back for lunch today. Kids had same thing I had quesadilla. Service and atmosphere are great...highly recommend. Oh and kids like the view!

This Frenchy's gets overlooked, because the other ones are so awesome. They have the same basic menu and atmosphere here. This one is convenient if you come by boat. They have a dock you pull into and make the short walk over. So I usually come here when boating around the intracoastal for a bite for lunch. I like the fish spread and the grouper sandwiches.

Ceviche!!! Clam Chowdah!!! Stuffed Mushrooms!!! Oh My!!! It was so good. We shared a Ceviche, then ordered a second. Clam Chowdah was so good I nearly cried. Mushrooms stuffed and creamy. We will be going back. The waitress was a gem.

This is the place to be on Mondays & Tuesdays...why? ACE Snow Crab legs...that's right...ACE for $22. Wait stop...not only that...it comes with fried flounder and 2 sides! Prices in general are pretty cheap here comrades, we're talking government handout prices for all you crab lovin' donkeys. Heee hawwww. 1LB of Snow Crab legs is $14ish. 2LB is $19ish...but ACE for $22? Crazy Eddie INSANE! The waitress sized me up...thinking...well I can make a few bucks on him, he can only eat 2LBs tops. Wrong. 6LBs later...Frenchy's lost the deal with me. I was a filthy glutton...true to my deep dark capitalistic ways. These were sexy legs too...filled with sweet meat. I typically don't eat my fish fried, but the fried flounder that came with the legs was no bottom feeder. Oh and the corn? Deep fried yo. Jimmy likes his corn deep fried. Crack corn? Yes. Key Lime Pie? Of course. The Grouper looked outstanding and the Mahi Mahi looked overcooked, frozen and out of place. Welcome to Yelp, the new Citisearch!

Hubby and I went to Frenchy's for lunch and found the food very lack-luster. We had the conch fritters and they were thick and heavy and contained no conch. The she-crab soup was passable and the conch salad was just alright. Hubby had the seafood combo and it was plain and the portions were small. Our server was a loud older gentleman who wasn't at all interested in helping us. We asked for a side of the seafood stuffing used for the stuffed mushrooms and was told no before he even asked the kitchen or manager. It was definitely not worth the hour drive and we won't be back for quite a while. You're losing your touch Frenchy's. Wake Up!!

Fast and friendly service. Decent drinks. Oysters for appetizer. Grouper topped with crab and a honey mustard caper sauce. Loved the meat, sauce was a little salty for my taste. Husband had crab cake sandwich that was really good.

This is seriously the best grouper sandwich I've ever had. EVER. The gumbo is out of this world, enough that I'm going to search for the recipe, which I hear is in a local cookbook. We also loved the stone crab, something we've never tried before. This is definitely a dive, but the food tells the story. Both times we went to Frenchy's we had to wait for a table. It was definitely worth the wait.

I have now been to Frenchys Saltwater Cafe twice and I perfer this one over the others. The food selection is just so much better! They have a much better selection of fresh seafood, the other places its all fried stuff. The oysters were raved about as well as the stone crab. I had cherry stone clams which were delicious as well. The clam chowder was tasty but it is not your normal clam chowder. They add a splash of sherry to it and a kick of spice. Now being a native New Englander i was very weary of this but it wasn't horrible. Would I get it again probably not but thats because I like things the way I like them. The reason I'm only giving 3 stars is the service. I have never had such a little brat of a waitress before. The girl made myself as well as my in laws feel so stupid for normal questions. When asked what came on a particular salad we were told "the normal stuff" with very rude look. Then when asked if fish on a salad could be replaced with chicken we were told I have no idea I'll have to check (turns out the kitchen wouldn't swap it out, ridiculous) so when we said can we get it without the fish she looked at us again with a snotty look and said yeah sure but I can't discount it. The theme certainly stuck throughout the meal as well. If it wasn't for the fun atmosphere and the great seafood I wouldn't return because of my service experience. Hopefully next time my waitress is better.

This place is a local favorite and a tourist destination. There food is great, the grouper sandwich is one of the best in town. I usually get the buffalo grouper, jalapeno hushpuppies, and a white sangria - which they sell by the pitcher If you want to avoid the crowds, there are two other locations within walking distance, all have similar menu's.

We are in Clearwater prior to going on cruise. We saw an ad for Frenchy's saltwater cafe in an airline magazine and decided to give it a try. I had a conch chowder soup and Cajun grouper sandwich. Both were delicious. The grouper is so fresh tasting here in Florida. And Frenchy's is the place to go to get it. They even have a sign that says "ask for our grouper rates" they are serious about grouper. But it doesn't stop there, they have all forms of seafood including crab, conch, clams, and even alligator tail

Hands down, my favorite bar on Clearwater Beach. It's located directly on the beach and outside the establishment are volleyball courts which we've used in the past.. several times. The vibe in the restaurant itself is super laid back and beachy. There's usually live music, all over the place age ranges, bright colors, amazing wait staff, and the food is fabulous. I without a doubt recommend the grouper. I'm not that big on fishy seafood.. i'll do shell fish all day but i usually stay away from fish.. the grouper though.. fabulous. The fruit salad is fabulous as well. They also have a gimmick. If you go to the bar that is closest to the beach, there's a camera. If you access their website.. you can see yourself on the web!!! Kind of cool! It's been a few years since i've visited the bar but my roommates and i lived in teh clearwater area for a few years and this was our favorite place to grab a drink and hang out. I'll have to book a trip back soon to visit!

Beautiful sunny day of sight seeing on our first trip to Clearwater. We stopped in here with family for dinner and had a great time. The off-street parking looked full but as we entered the lot a car was pulling out... lucky! The cafe was decorated in colorful fish themed items and was as busy as their parking lot was full. Luckily, a table opened up and we were seated and handed menus. Their food was tasty and featured many locally caught seafood items. Domestic and imported beers were offered in the menu. Our table overlooked the street and provided great people-watching adding to our wonderful dinner experience with family.

This hole in the wall restaurant is awesome! Doesn't look like much but the best grouper sandwich I have ever had... This place has four or five restaurants that are different in a few different ways, I prefer this one, it is a little less full of tourists than the other ones. Frenchys rockaway is great too, similar menu, but you are right on the water. Either way get the Grouper sandwich, I prefer mine fried. Also some of frenchy's have conch fritters and gator tail, I would recommend these for appetizers. Also if you got to Frenchy's Rockaway, ask for Adam as a server, very good and has great advice on where to go next.

Gets it done. Park your boat at the dock, walk right in the back door. Great atmosphere- patio has a nice breeze, beers are cold, service friendly. Many items come out of the fryer, which is disappointing. Try the grouper sandwich and the cracked conch. Reasonably priced. The fried alligator tastes like popcorn shrimp, tastes like chicken tenders, tastes like... you get the picture. Great for kids too...

We went to frenchys on a Tuesday night around 6pm. We had no wait and got a tale inside. The atmosphere was casual/hole in the wall type place which we love in seafood restaurants. The Tuesday night special is the special steak hoagie for $3.95. Our son ordered this and said it was delicious. My husband and I both ordered the grilled grouper sandwich. Since this place is known for their grouper we really expected more. It was decent and well priced. The potato salad was really good though. The service was super quick and very friendly. We were out of there in less than 45 minutes.

I ordered the stuffed grouper (which was good...but hey hollandaise sauce makes everything good!) but the food was served a bit cold to most peoples standards. My husband ordered another mixed seafood plate... it was just ok. Key lime pie was pretty good. Cute place , close to walk to nearby hotels for drinks. I enjoyed the Frenchy's Cafe appetizers (lobster bites and fried oysters.) Good drink prices and laid back.

This place has a beautiful location and I was starving when I visited this place. I ordered the shrimp and blue crab salad. The wait time for food was 30 minutes because of a health inspector visit. Nothing was done initially o compensate my long wait. When my salad finally arrived it was absolutely confusing. Fruit, tortilla bowl for salad and seafood covered in mayonnaise. The seafood could not be appreciated because of the strong taste of mayonnaise. Such a disappointment...

French's was suggested to us by some locals as a must try for local cuisine. We had dined at another Frenchy's location a year earlier but the experience and food were not memorable. The day was beautiful and we wanted to take full advantage of the weather so we choose outdoor dining. Not being familiar with "grouper", a local fish and common dish in this area I decided to give it a go. I choose the version with crabmeat and asparagus for a hefty price. The other members in my party choose simple and less expensive fare; a cheeseburger and a bowl of soup. I don't know if it was my dish that held things up but it took a long time to get our meals. Diners around us that came in at the same time were getting their dishes before us. My grouper was so-so and not something I would order again here. Since I'm not familiar with how this should taste I don't know what I should expect but would like to try it again elsewhere. My husband said his burger was average but my daughter liked her crab soup although she said it had a "kick" of something hot. With that being said portion sizes were generous. We did however regret our decision to dine outdoors as seagulls were on standby and if you weren't actively guarding your food they were diving in for a taste. This made for a less then desirable dining experience.

There're so many Frency's along the Clearwater Baech area that it's not even funny. Behind the Saltwater location, there's Frenchy's motel, and Frency's stone crab, and Frency's seafood co. Head to another direction and there're more Frency's. It reminds me of Monopoly - a player builds multiple houses and eventually leads to a hotel, but in this case it's building a bunch of crappy restaurants in premium locations. The restaurant uses worned plastc plates, which reminds me of hawker diners in 3rd world country, and feels a bit nasty as well. Parking around there is tough, the restaurant only has limited spots, and what's worse, you can't park at the nearby Frency's either Ordered grilled seafood medley, raw oysters, conch ceviche and crab soup. The crab soup was barely OK, at least I found some small pieces of crab in there, but didn't have much seafood flavor to it. The raw oysters were tiny. I seafood medley came to me in Cajun, not the grilled I wanted, and all the flavor of fresh seafood was buried by the heavy cajun spices. The conch ceviche was the worst of all - just few pieces of conch and the rest was cabbage... and TONS of it! I had one in Bahamas and was served plenty of conch so it's sweetness of conch was mixed well with the sauce and vegetables, whereas the Frenchy's was simply cabbage soaked in lime, absolutely horrible. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was the fresh seafood served. Not sure what the buzz about Frenchy's about, but with this experience I wouldn't visit any other Frenchy's. Oh I know why, because when seafood is deep fried, even Long John Silver would be considered an awesome restaurant!!

Party of seven all give it 4-5 stars. Food was great and service as well. One person in our party is gluten intolerant and the manager worked with her directly on what would be safe, and tasty, options for her. It is on the noisy side but not out of the ordinary for a bar atmosphere.

Food was good a big thumbs up to the she-crab soup and grouper sandwich. Was not a fan of the baked stuffed flounder it did not have a distinct enough flavor. Service was good and prompt the only downfall was the weak sangria.

I am a sucker for good seafood, not red lobster, I said good seafood. Frenchys always hooks it up! This Frenchys is on a side road just off the Clw beach round about. I like this location because you can always get a seat without a crazy long wait unlike the location on the water. I had the grouper nugget basket, fresh grouper lightly seasoned with hush puppies and fries. Nice, light and fresh. We also ordered the calimari which was ok, and a super awesome buffalo grouper sandwich. The sandwich and nuggets were about $11 a piece but you pay for what you get and in this case its always worth it.

First of all, I love the fact that this place has their own boat dock for Frenchies Seafood Co so that every piece of fish is fresh to the table. We dock our boat here and then walk on over to eat at the Saltwater Cafe. When you first pull up to the dock, there is a lady that stands out there and pulls you in and gets your boat all tied up and in the process she tells you about the specials for the day. I love that! As you walk along the dock, you pass the Frenchies Seafood Co where all of the fresh fish to your plate comes from. It's pretty funny to see all of the big "Floridian" birds hanging out right in the front of the door in hopes they will get some tidbits of left over fish scales. Frenchies is known for their Grouper Sandwich, so of course we can't have anything else. But first comes the appetizer....Island style cracked conch....delish! Then it was onto the sandwiches. My friend wanted to try something different, so he went with the Grouper Reuben sandwich..I am SO glad that he ordered this, because I now know what I will be getting the next time we come here. It was your classic Reuban without the roast beef, but filled with grilled grouper instead. It didnt sound too good...but oh wowza...did it taste great! I dont think I will have another Reuban unless it is made this way. I had the regular grilled grouper sandwich, which was good too, but I really wished that I had ordered the Reuben instead. The food has always been spot on and so has the service. If you dock your boat there, make sure to tip the lady at the dock...she watches your boat and has to deal with the HEAT!

Used to be great. I've been coming here for 20 years. Used to always get the grouper sandwich but at 11 to 14 dollars they are getting a little pricey now. Tried the raw oysters, and while they weren't "bad" they also weren't as fresh as they should be. Had the seafood sampler which was also disappointing. Not hot and really small for the price. The corn on the cob was cold and chewy--cooked a long time ago. It'll be a while before I return here.

On our most recent trip to the Clearwater area we spent some time at the Clearwater aquarium, home to Winter the Dolphin. We were hungry so we found, tucked away behind a lot of the hustle and bustle of the beach traffic, Frenchy's Saltwater Café. The food there was outstanding and the service was very good as well. One of the exceptional dishes that we found at Frenchy's was the Grouper Tamales. I think it is a bold move to put fish in a dish that requires a long steam time but the process didn't seem to hurt the fish which was flaky, tender and flavorful. I also had the ceviche for my entrée. To make a good ceviche you must have fresh seafood. The seafood in my ceviche was fresh and wonderful. Like all ceviche there was a bit of spice that did nothing to detract from the refreshing flavor of the dish. The food was served quickly and the staff was friendly so I would recommend a trip to Frenchy's, at this location at least, anytime.

Of the four Frenchy's locations (as of 12/09), the Saltwater Cafe definitely has the best menu and is the locals favorite. If you have never had conch before you don't need to go to the Keys, try the cracked-conch here. It's lightly breaded strips of tenderized conch that are fried to perfection. The onion straws and she-crab soup are also personal appetizer favorites. As others have written, the grouper sandwich is always good but for something completely unique get the grouper ruben, it rocks! If i'm not in the mood for seafood the turkey ruben is my standard choice along with the refreshing coleslaw that has chunks of pineapple in it.. You can also get to Frenchy's Saltwater via the fishing dock on the Inter-coastal just north of the Clearwater Marina which makes this location of Frenchy's the best by land or by sea...

I have LOVED frenchys for years..both as a resident and an out of towner. But the last two times I've gone there it has really gone downhill. The food (Tuna poke) was mediocre at best. And the service was just bad. The waitress seemed pretty annoyed in general. The one thing they have that is still amazing is their stone crab...if they have it in season. The last time I went with a group we waited half an hour for a table and they had been out of it for two days despite it being advertised as a special that evening up on their board. And the staff couldn't have cared less when I brought it up. We got the snow crab instead and it had clearly been frozen and was not great. I think sadly frenchys saltwater has turned into an overpriced tourist trap.

These guys have 5-6 locations. If you like fried food, then this is your place. The fried grouper sandwich is their signature dish. It is so huge that two people can easily share one. It is the place to visit for some true local cuisine.

Food is very good here. Excellent atmosphere. A great place to have seafood and drinks for a reasonable price. It wouldn't be Clearwater Beach without Frenchy's. We like to go here first then enjoy the movies at dusk in the park on Friday or Saturday night. Try any of the Frenchy's, you will be happy with them.

The food and service were very very good! If you have kids, please don't sit near the bar area. Talk about cougars on the prowl!! I couldn't help but stare, in between delicious bites of my grouper sandwich, at a VERY tanned middle aged woman wearing a tiny triangle neon pink bikini, and a sheer bottom cover wrap. I have seen my fair on the beach, but usually not for lunch at a restaurant. And she wasn't the only spectacle.

Food at Frenchy's seems to have taken a dive recently. I ordered a special of chicken tacos for 10 bucks. What arrived were three tiny American tacos, with semi-cold soft tortillas, shredded, cold yellow cheese and a tiny bit of chicken. Decidedly not worth 10 bucks. Total rip, in fact. On the bright side, the atmosphere is great. The tap beers are very standard watery stuff, but the people watching is pretty good. There is vastly better food on Clearwater Beach, and some people swear by the grouper, which this family chain actually catches. To me, grouper is completely tasteless and overpriced, but the tourists gobble it up.

Tried this place based on the decent yelp reviews. Showed up just after 1pm and the place was all but 3 tables busy. Started to have seconds thought but was greeted by a very friendly server. She eased my reservations with the thought of fresh snapper. The heaping basketful of calamari was lightly breaded and very tasty. In fact, it was good calamari. Their famous seafood dip was good too. And the snapper....was indeed fresh. Good food all around. Two thumbs up! We'll be back next time we're on the Florida Gulf coast for sure.

Great meal and awesome service. I have been here many times. Had the Original Grouper Sandwich. Waitress checked in often to make sure everything was ok. She was also a great "tour" guide recommending other places to go and things to do around Clearwater.

We ordered the grouper nuggets, and the she-crab soup. The soup was thick and creamy (a little unexpected) but with a splash of Frenchy's hot sauce, it made the whole experience more enjoyable. For entree, we ordered the grouper sandwich and the clam strips. Clam strips were ok but they were competing with the best I've ever had at Faneuil Hall in Boston. The grouper sandwich lacked luster and taste. For some reason is very bland even the onion roll it comes on was bland. We probably won't be back here or we'd try a different location. I think that we missed out on the fish spread (which I couldn't eat at the time because I'm prego). Maybe next time.

All the food on Clearwater Beach is pretty much the same. Grouper this, burger that. Do yourself a favor and come to Saltwater. The food is solid, the service is amazing, and you probably won't have to wait as long to eat as you would at Rockaway. I generally come here with my family and we share a bunch of appetizers instead of ordering entrees. I'd definitely recommend the gator bites. They're usually cooked well (not chewy) and the flavor is always spot-on. If it's stone crab season, order a pound of mediums and a beer. There's no better combination and Frency's prices can't be beat. Brian (also known as Big B) is one of the best bartenders I've ever come across. He's friendly, funny, and it doesn't take him long to know exactly how you like your drink. Have a margarita with jalapenos and he'll ask whether you know me or Chris. :)

It's one of the few places you can dock your boat and walk across a small local road right into the backdoor of the restaurant. We sat ourselves, 6 of us. Very casual. We ordered a pitch of the sangria... in my opinion nothing spectacular. The clams were quite small, I think they were little neck clams. Out of 6, 4 ordered the shecrab soup, that in itself can be a meal if you get the bowl and a small app. The bowls were just right. It was Monday so the special was blknd or grilled snapper tacos. They came with 3 and a lot of extras like cabbage and cheese and dressing to hide the face that there was barely any fish in them. Another member of my party got them as well ans we both agreed, we would have rather paid for 2 and less fillers in the tacos and more legit fish. Next to me ordered the crab cakes app, not bad decent size. Last but not least, the sanatizer handle on the bathroom door was a random but nice touch. Overall decent time. Not bad for a quick lunch.

Good food. Great service. The restaurant was very busy but we were seated within 20 minutes and had salads and cold beer within minutes of getting a table. My wife got crab claws and I got a delicious buffalo grouper sandwich, yum. The smoked fish dip is incredible. It was a great night (mid 60's) for an open air restaurant to satisfy the "yeah we made it to the beach" feeling.

I don't know why I am not giving this place five stars: I definitely love it that much. While this is my favorite Frenchy's (and the one on the beach itself my least favorite!) it is hard to pin down the attraction. Is it the always fresh fish? Heck, I have come here for a long time now and can hardly remember a meal that was less than superb. Heck, it's worth five stars just for being able to depend on its consistency. For example, there is a highly rated similar beach bar very near this one... and I have never been simply because I like Frenchy's too much. Today I had a dozen Venus clams. What are they? Beats me, but with butter and garlic and a touch of wine, I thought they were great. The shells were so beautiful that I took them home with me. They will find their new home in my backyard fountain. They were served in a bowl with two slices of French style bread. The aroma was heavenly, but second to the taste of the sauce which I soaked up with the bread. I don't know how often they have them on special, but I recommend getting a dozen if you are a clam fan. My only criticism was with the garlic: I know the difference between jarred minced garlic and fresh and the latter would make it better. if the kitchen staff has knife skills, mincing garlic isn't a problem and therefore jarred garlic should never be used. I couldn't come to Frenchy's without tasting the grouper and I had a grouper reuben. Long ago when I first saw this on the menu, I thought it sounded like the worst combination on earth. I have since been proven wrong and the grouper was so incredibly fresh and properly cooked that it felt like it melted in my mouth. With it I had their cole slaw. In the past, I could swear it was a bit tastier. Didn't it used to have some pineapple in it? In any case, it was a pretty slaw... made without mayo (which I like) but while it was nice and crisp, I thought it could have perhaps used a touch of sweetness with some citrus. It is a small thing, but it should have been a bit better. They had Modelo as beer of the month and it was a fine selection, not even requiring the lime they always put on the glass. My wife had crab cakes which were large and very flavorful. She is an expert on crab cakes and when she likes them, I know they are delicious. The remoulade sauce was properly spicy and tasty. I tasted her virgin pina colada and it was pretty good. Our waitress was very pleasant and attentive, glad to talk about the clams and the other menu items. She made a very good lunch into a superior one. Frenchy's is just too good a place for me to want to try anything else in the area... at least for lunch on a bright lovely Florida afternoon. Makes me want to take a nap just thinking of those clams!

So when the summer heat finally breaks...in October no less...it's a beautiful night, 75 degrees & no humidity, a nice breeze coming in off the gulf, so where do you want to eat? Seafood at one of Clearwater Beach's outdoor restaurants, of course. The short list quickly includes Frenchy's choices, so last night it was Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe. FSC is a fairly typical FL open air restaurant, with a small interior dining area near the bar if you want to sit inside. But on a night like this, you want to sit outside on the porch which rings halfway around the building. On the porch there's seating in tables and booths for about 60-70, with what I'd guess is about half that inside. The night was quiet and most of the dinner crowd was already gone, so it was very peaceful. I was quickly seated at a table on the edge of the porch that let me catch the full breeze. The only thing that could make it quickly better would be an ice cold pint of brew, which was delivered moments later. I hadn't eaten all day and the Seafood Medley of grouper, scallops and shrimp with steamed veggies sounded great. Cajun style sounded even better. In short order the platter of seafood arrived piping hot and looking delicious. A taste taste confirmed just how good it was going to be. Everything was well-seasoned for Cajun-style, without too much heat at all to mask the Cajun spices. The grouper tasted fresh, the scallops were cooked well, and the shrimp was a nice finish. The steamed broccoli and cauliflower was just a bit crisp and crunchy the way I like them, too. Although I was extremely hungry, all the portions were just right and I was full. And for about $15 for all the variety of flavors, the price and value were good. More ice cold brew washed everything down and cooled the Cajun spice. Service throughout the meal was prompt and attentive, checking in to make sure I had everything I needed. Seafood at FSC isn't the greatest seafood I've ever had, but what they do, they do pretty well, in settings that are relaxing and comfortable. In my experience they're usually a solid choice for seafood when you're at the beach. Atmosphere: 4, on the beach food shack scale Service: 4 Food: 4 Value: 4

YUM! We really liked the fried conch. The grouper sandwhiches were ok in my opinion, nothing to write home about. I got the grilled and my boyfriend got the buffalo (very spicy). Service was decent, we arrived around 3 pm, but they were still pretty busy. When we first arrived, the manager seated us. There were too empty tables. One had no chairs and was literally three feet in front of the main enterance's doorway. He asked if that table was ok. I asked back if he was reffering to the table without chairs that everyone kept bumping into or the one that was in a slightly better location behind it. He said the one with no chairs. Needless to say, we refused and got the other table.

Real good food, very nice staff and we will go eat there next time we go to clear water. We started the night next door at cooters and I am so happy we ate at Frenchy's !!!!! The food is good...

We tried to have dinner here on Thur night but they were closed for renovations. Came back for lunch on Sat and the place did not disappoint. We had the grilled octopus, snapper salad and the snapper sandwich, all of which were delicious! Service was prompt and friendly. Our server's recommendations were all spot on. We'll be back.

We heard raves about Frenchy's; everyone told us to go there so we did. We went at an off time, 3 in the afternoon, which may explain our experience. The wait staff was casual to the point that of being slipshod. They all looked sloppy and rumpled and not very eager to wait on us. My husband got a grouper sandwich which was absolutely puny. It was ok, but very sloppily put together and a very small piece of fish. Nothing special. I ordered a chicken salad and it was lukewarm, not cold. That should have warned me but it didn't. Altogether a mediocre meal with mediocre service. But worst of all I got sick to my stomach from the warm chicken salad when I got home. I have an iron stomach; I never get sick, but I did after eatng here. That does it, no more Frenchy's for us.

This place lived up to every good review written about it. The all you can eat crab legs and flounder were wonderful. The batter in which the flounder was prepared is excellent. The crab legs were big and prepared perfectly. The beer was cold and very reasonably priced. We will be in Clearwater for 4 nights and we intend to eat there for 3 ofmthose nights.

LOVED the atmosphere of this place! Off the beaten path a bit and away from the tourist-clogged restaurants on the "boardwalk." Frenchy's feels like a place where everyone is a local and you can relax and enjoy yourself. They have a great outdoor patio as well as indoor seating. Even with the place fairly full, we were seated right away, got great service, and didn't have to wait long for our food. My fried shrimp were yummy and my husband's grouper was also tasty (if not a little bland). I also tasted the she-crab soup and was immediately sad that I hadn't ordered a bowl for myself - it was delicious. Three of us split a piece of key lime pie and let me tell you, this pie was seriously good. Apparently, good key lime pie is never green (that just indicates that they have added food coloring to it) and this was a light yellow color with wonderful flavor. It tasted totally homemade and was a great treat right before we departed FL.

A bunch of us girls went to Frenchy's about a week ago. I live in AZ so when the opportunity arises to get some fresh seafood I am all over it! The place was cozy and there was a beach kind of attitude and energy that I liked. I ordered the tacos (2 grouper and one shrimp) and noticed afterwards that it was Taco Tuesdays! Only a buck fifty each! That was great in my book and they were delicious and of good portion size when they arrived at the table. Made my day:)

Good stuff: Sangria, Crab cakes, She-crab soup. Across from the Hilton, a great lunch stop.

She crab soup awesome....everything else (food and service)....eh. Seafood fried in old grease...sent it back and requested it grilled and that was mediocre at best. But I would go back for the soup...just the soup.

This place made my trip to Clearwater Beach complete. It's totally authentic to the area and there's loads of seafood. This particular location is probably not the most scenic (wedged between a building and a parking lot), but food was fantastic (especially the crab legs and key lime pie).

It was OK, nothing to write home about. I guess the hype and me expecting more than just ok.

we must go here every time we are in florida. as in its one of our very first stops as soon as we get the plane tied down. the smoked fish spread is off the hook. a little of their house hot sauce....mmmm. the grouper. yes their own boats catch them and the sandwiches are always generous servings. we get the super grouper which is a very generous serving. I recommend going with the cajun, or for a very satisfying sandwich go with the buffalo grouper. it is standard buffalo sauce not very spicy so don't worry. the buff shrimp are a good app choice. the onion straw basket is pretty much a must do, just be sure you use a fork. The clam strips are also very good. If you go during stone crab claw season (november to may i think) get them cold. they are cooked when processed by the fisher, if you get them hot they will have been cooked twice. i prefer them cold, always seem tastier. if you are in clearwater, go to any of the frenchys locations. get grouper. then you will be back for more.

only 2 memorable things. Stuffed Grouper was awesome and the price is very reasonable. Raw oysters and clams are sweet and fresh. Wish I would have been here for stone crab season 10/15 - 5/15. The other review is right, this is better than Rockaway for sure.

Worst experience in a restaurant I have had in a long long time. The service was non existent! Server took our drink order, 10 min later came back with the drinks. Then 5 min later to take our order. We asked for our kids food to come in first, this never happened!. The conch appetizer was a joke. One scoop of finely chopped conch? Ridiculous! Server never offered refills nor. Even cleared our plates for main course. At the end of our meal we still had aps plates all over the place. No. Manager to be found running is place. Clearly the name and fame is all they have left. Without experience employees they will fall down like any other restaurant. Customers were leaving tonight expressing same

This resturant came highly recommended by many.. We found it to be crowded and hard to get a seat. The food was not what we expected but the cajun grouper sandwich was good. The original grouper sandwich was very greasy. And the fried alagator was chewy, good with sauce.

Grouper sandwich is just okay - nothing special in my opinion. Guess I was expecting a lot more from reading the reviews. Service was horrendous. Our food was served and the server didn't bring us forks/knives. Server never came back to check on us not even once during our meal. Very disappointing experience.

Reuben grouper sandwich. No you know all you need to know. Awesome. As long as you are served, smart enough to get a pitcher of beer(ice in cup to keep cold-they do understand the need for cold beer) you are all set. This place is just so much fun when you need great food to complement the great people who share the seats with you.

Love the Buffalo Chicken (or Grouper) sandwich and the Saltwater's Clam Chowder, which is the best I've ever had. Prices have risen quite a bit at this popular tourist destination, but the food is almost always great. The beer of the month isn't always great, but it's only 2 bucks!

This place was great. I had ordered the crab stuffed grouper which was amazing. The service was great. The only thing I had a problem with is that there was a cockroach in the bathroom.

We had a great meal at Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe tonight. Friendly staff, casual atmosphere, open air, painted bright colors. Don't expect anything too fancy. The menu is (obviously) seafood-centric, with the usual assortment of fried goodies that you would expect. Also some non-fried items: I saw poke and stuffed grouper on the menu, and the table next to us was enjoying raw oysters. We opted for fried calamari appetizer, shrimp fajitas, the catch of the day (snapper, we ordered it grilled), and a kid's meal (fried shrimp). Everything was great. The calamari was great, not too greasy. The fish was very fresh, and tasted good even though we ordered it without any seasoning except salt and pepper. They have a nice kid's menu also, starting at less than $5 I seem to remember. The kids fried shrimp was also good: big shrimp, lightly battered (in a different way than the calamari). Overall, the prices were fair for what I would characterize as average portion sizes at a very casual restaurant. The exception may have been the fried calamari appetizer (which was a little more than I would expect). Outdoor seating is covered.

Everyone in our party seemed really happy with this pick- it was our first time here. Drinks were great, service was friendly, food was amazing. The garlic crab fries were perfection- too good to be true. The buffalo grouper was great, as were the grilled shrimp and scallops. The place was pretty hoppin around dinner time but we still got all of our food pretty quickly. Would go there again.

We were in the area for spring break and saw the reviews on Yelp, so thought we would give it a try. Service was great! Tyler, our server, knew the menu front to back and was very helpful. We ordered the calamari for an appetizer, it was the best I've have ever had! And had grouper as the main course. Also, excellent! No disappointments from the time walking in to the time walking out. We even stopped back later in the week before we left! Deserves the rating!!!!

Not that good. People were totally trashed standing next to our table and were almost doing it next to our table with my 13 yr old daughter watching. They kept serving them shots!? The the drunk people kept yelling shots I didnt even want to look over I was so embarrassed for them. My husband and I got grouper and mahi mahi sandwiches both were not that great. Colslaw was ok. Fries were fresh. My daughter said her burger taste like it was watered down and she wouldnt eat it. (Thats a surprise cause she eats everything latley) not that great left disappointed

Had the Cajun grouper. It was absolutely amazing. Perfect mix of Cajun spices and cooked perfectly. Melted in my mouth. Once I had my first bite I forgot I about any sides I had even my drink. Recommend this place for seafood lovers.

This would have been a four star had I not got the fried conch. The conch was extremely rubbery and the oil it was fried in must have been bad. 5 hours later and still feeling the effects of dirty oil. For my meal I got the grilled Cajun Grouper sandwich with coleslaw. It was very good. Wish I would have only ordered it. The staff is very fun and outgoing. I would eat there again. I would just stay away from anything fried.

By far my favorite of the Frenchy's restaurants. The service and atmosphere are always great. For appetizers, the cracked conch, calamari, and fish spread are incredible! For entrees, I have never made it past the fried grouper sandwich. It is a great size, and the beer batter is to die for. The bar is excellent and I am never disappointed by a weak drink. Although I am sure the others are all great, if I am going to Frenchy's, this is the one I go to. Definitely a place to visit after a day on the beach.

I was spending one night in Clearwater for work, so I wanted to make sure I found a good place to try - and I'm so glad I chose Frenchy's! I got the crab cake sandwich - phenomenal! And their french fries - whoa! I sat at the bar since I was traveling alone, and it was great! KK, my bartender, was very talkative and fun. Then Ralph (who I believe might have been the manager) ordered some food and ended up sitting next to me and the three of us ended up chatting for a while. The people there were all so friendly and provided great service. I'd definitely recommend this place to anyone - and I will definitely be back if I find myself in Clearwater again!

Love french's and saltwater is my favorite location! Great seafood casual atmosphere and this location isn't as touristy as the rest. Service a little slow but when you have good food and cold beer it's ok. Party of 6 couple pounds of shrimp, conch fritters, dozens of clams, then most ordered dinner, plus a lot of beer and the bill was around $220 which was not bad. Make sure you save room for the peanut butter pie!

Food was lackluster. Server was nice. Location was ideal. Conch fritters were all bread, no conch. Rum runner was weak. Sangria was bomb. 80's cover band- amazeballs. I'd come back just to sip (red) homemade sangria and rock out to the band.

Although we aren't in town for a.y.c.e. crab legs we are here for the 21st annual Stone Crab block party... The claws were the best part of our meal and decent price at $16 for 6-8 medium claws... the roasted corn was amazing too.

We wanted to try out this location instead of the larger Rockaway location. This is a great little bar and grill. Wife had the grouper sandwich and I had the combo platter consisting of fried grouper, shrimps, and scallops. Everything was delicious. Grouper was very fresh, light and flaky. Breading was perfectly seasoned on the fried items. We also had the fried conch, which also tasted great ! Service was prompt and friendly.

We got a grouper here!! haha...sorry, had to say it. But no, really, they speacialize in grouper. :) When you visit a beach town, you want to find a place that embraces the local flavor. I came with a really large group - like, 24 people. And walking in, it's exactly what we all wanted. We wanted the beachy atmosphere, great seafood selection, and a non-seafood selection. This place is great! Walking in you have wooden benches strategically placed in front of a cartoony grouper looking statue to takes pics in front of, painted decor and beach type trinkets, complete with a baby rattlesnake box. (If this doesn't scream Old Florida, I don't know what does then) :) On the appetizer list you have ceviche, gator nuggets (come on, who doesn't love nuggets, really???), calamari, grilled mediterranean style grilled squid, etc. etc. On the menu there's a great selection of shrimp, fish and chips, burgers, chicken, and of course, Grouper! I think the grouper really is the highlight. You can have it served several ways. Sandwhich, grilled, fried, baked with crab stuffing and hollandaise on top. The food was great, but wha was better is the service. We had one server amongst the size of 24 and she not only kept up on top of things without asking, but she was friendly and just an overall warm and inviting personality. :) This place is a must if you're looking for local flavor :)

Went there for the She Crab Soup and it did not disappoint! The boneless chicken wings were awesome as well. I got the Cajun grouper with shrimp and veggies. The veggies were too hard except for the cauliflower and the Cajun flavor was not very flavorful. Fried catfish was good could use more seasoning but was great with the secret frenchy's sauce. Tarter sauce was not good in my opinion. Key lime pie was good as was the turtle cheesecake!

Disclaimer: I generally dislike fish and seafood, so I'm not very knowledgeable, but if I'm in the mood I do enjoy fried, grilled, or broiled shrimp (NOT those cold boiled things they use in shrimp cocktail). I went along agreeably enough with local family who swore by Frenchy's Saltwater Cafe. And I was pleasantly surprised. I gathered up the courage to try a tiny bite of my wife's fried grouper, which was completely non-fishy; I can tell you only that the other diners, my wife included, were raving over it. My own chicken fingers were excellent, bathed in a tender/crisp, very tasty, totally non-greasy coating. I wish I had ordered the shrimp, though: both our nephew's Buffalo shrimp and my wife's fried shrimp - in a coating similar to that on the chicken - were probably the best shrimp I've ever eaten. Next time! I was also charmed by the look of the place; it avoids disagreeably kitschy by just THIIIIISSS much, but it's truly cute in a totally beach-shacky way. Looking forward to visiting again next time we're in the area.

What a beautiful night at Clearwater Beach in late May. Just amazing. And yes, the environment probably boosted Frenchy's rating a star, because overall, I was a little disappointed given the reviews of the grouper sandwich, which for me was underwhelming. There was nothing wrong with it, just nothing exceptional either. Started with the Smoked Fish Spread and Gator Tail. Both decent, but forgettable. The highlight was the hush puppies, which were not on the menu. Definitely the best hush puppies on the planet!

We had the original grouper sandwiches with slaw and they were amazing. Super fresh and delicate with a nice crunch here and there from the batter. The coleslaw with pinapple in it was awesome. Can't wait to come back. Megan our waitress was great :)

We stopped in after sunset on a breezy night and were delighted to find such a cozy and welcoming atmosphere! Frenchy's Cafe is one of those places that's super loud but you don't mind it at all :-) We started with the poutine - delish. Then moved on to a bunch of grouper, my mainstay when visiting the area, and we were both delighted with the quality and flavor of the food. Frenchy's was great and we will absolutely return if we end up in Clearwater again!

Good service, the food was really average, my ceviche was tasteless and the maji maji not really fresh! The signature sandwish was good. I really had more expectations from the reviews I read.
